Utah!

In December, in like the snow, and fridge temps. Seriously. I will have to bring a momma in the house. I would freak out with babies out there, even with a light and everything, Just so you know if that happens I'm coming to your house to pick up some eggs, your the closest to me that I know with a Rooster.

Seriously in the middle of the Winter. I just hope they are laying an egg by winter.

I have a bantam cochin hen, that started laying in December and went broody 2 weeks later, I let her sit on golf balls to see if she was serious, then put some real eggs under her just before lockdown, she hatched 3/4 eggs and turned out to be a great mom!! We did have to put her in the basement for a couple of weeks, it was right when it was subzero here, go figure.. but she has since been broody 2 more times this year, she's a great little momma=)

Speaking of which... anyone want a little mostly black bantam cochin cockerel?? Dad is Henry (he is mottled/calico) from Michelle and Mom is a black bantam cochin, they look like they will be mostly black... I have 2

Well, sold the Swedish Flower Hen pair, now I still have the Crested Dream Legbar trio... any takers?? I really need to post ya'll some pics.. I'm always on the wrong computer when I post on here, lol.. They are almost 5 months old, I'm asking $75 now, but would take a reasonable offer..

Although I live in Idaho, we have family in Utah and visit fairly often... send me a PM if you are interested...

I also have one more Swedish Flower Hen cockerel.. non-crested... really pretty with some blue feathers, 2 extra Crested Cream Legbar cockerels, and one French Black Copper Marans cockerel... they range in age from 2 months (Marans) to almost 4 months (SFH cockerel) as well as some started pullets, brown egg-layers, 3 months old, $8 for the pullets, $5 for the cockerels...

Lilwanis.... had to skip ahead and missed your post about not being able to have roosters, I am sooo sorry!! I know how much you've been looking forward to your breeding projects

Lisa.... CUTE puppy, oh, and guess what???? That Olive Egger pullet?? She is laying a chocolate egg!!! Go figure, my hen that lays a nice olive egg has a straight comb, and this girl has a nice pea comb, muffs and beard... goes to show you NEVER know, haha!

I would take a chocolate egger too! So long as it is an any-egger and not a crower lol. STILL unsure, can you believe that? The comb was red a little early, but small pea comb, no three rows...BUT this one has long legs and a very rooster like posture...has had some male-ish behaviour....no pointy saddle feather yet, but I see black ones coming in right there, not blue. Cross fingers for me! haha! The EE's have snuck up on me as roosters before, so I hope this one is just a tom-boy. that is too funny you got tricked on your egg color :)

Updated pics of my little SG rooster. You guys are so good to put up with my pictures of him. I just love getting pics of this little guy. He is so spunky!

I am dying to see if they are white or orange, black skin or white skin, silkied or not. Who knows!?

patience is not my strong suit.! :p

Yes Lisa, they came. They also had several with water at the top. There are a few that didn't. I have three from the first batch that will go into lock down this coming Wed. Hoping I get at three out of this next batch. And hoping that the three that do go into lock down this next week hatch! With normal heads and beaks. One has a very high air sac up the side, the other two have nice air sacs.
I got some eggs from my friend with the beautiful SG, but I don't think she knew for sure which ones were hers. Plus, she was on eggs when I went over, but she says she's been getting eggs from her. Three for sure she says are hers. We'll see when they hatch. Even if I get a buff, it should be a nice looking Silkie or SG. He is nice.

Cynthia--well best of luck with all the hatches! I am hoping we will have our own SG eggs for hatching not too far down the road. I have one beautiful white SQ silkie that is looking female to put with my SG rooster. She did not hatch until 5/8, so will have to wait a bit longer. That will be a great pair! I think my black SG chick is also female...hoping....that one is not as great for breeding, she may have a single comb coming in. She will be a beautiful pet...but not sure if she would send that single comb to the babies..I think I read it was dominant. A few others I am waiting to figure out genders on. Maybe one more girl. I think my only white SG chick is a boy. AGAIN! This seems to be a pattern :old

So I need a dang egg. Yes, just one flipping egg, for dinner, and of course I tell that to all my girls and they just look at me...Well that is your problem mom! Why can't September come fast enough, that way if I need an egg, I can just go out in the backyard!

I can't wait to see all the SG babies. Hope you both have a great hatch!

Lilwanis, I forgot to mention that I am so sorry you lost your rooster battle. I am so mad and upset for you. There's nowhere left to fight? Cynthis, that drawing Hector made is amazing.
WoW! Hector is an amazing artist. Have not seen him on here in months and months! What is he up to? Lilwanis I am really bummed out about your mess with the neighbors/chickens/no roosters. That seems so unfair. :( Welcome eric801thelin! I do have Mottled Houdans, they are really pretty...crested like Polish--but I like their demeanor more, not as flighty. No hens for sale though. I put my first Houdan egg in the bator yesterday, I may have a few chicks in a few weeks if you want any fall babies :) I am also hatching half NN/half Showgirls in a week or two. They should be interesting! I have two polish pullets that are 5 months old, so far I am planning on keeping them but we are having a hard time finding a pen to put them in that they are accepted in. They have been by themselves in a temporary pen all summer, but that won't work for winter, they will need a more enclosed protected space.. so trying to integrate them into another group that has a permanent coop...it has been hard. If I end up selling them I will definitely check with you. Showgirls are silkies that are Naked necked. Black skin, furry feathers....but these eggs could turnout either, still finding out what this cross will make, so we will soon find out! I am **planning** on hatching more purebred showgirls and houdans in the Spring if youare interested. Gary--sorry I still did not get more quail habitat pics up yesterday. It was crazy here, I had some unannounced "surprise!" preschool/daycare inspections here and had people here most of the day. Gotta love it when they come. It takes up so much time! Will try to get out there this afternoon. HAPPY FRIDAY! It has been a long time coming this week . YAY! :celebrate P.S. I also would like to know is Desert ever sleeps.... ha ha :)
Sleep?? Sleep?? Huh??? Sleep???
hmm.png
I don't sleep much right now.... have way too many things to do. Just when I think I'm done with a project, another springs up. Right now, I'm building like crazy to keep ahead of my replacement and additional keeper chicks' growth. Thought the bins for the sell chicks and the big brooders for my keeper chicks would be enough... but no!! The new man-camp trailer which I split inside and had the older juveniles in one side and the younger juveniles in the other now has a split story. The youngest juveniles just got bumped to a new 'off the floor' brooder in the trailer, leaving the entire floor still to the middle aged juveniles. Soon the older juveniles will have an 'off the floor' brooder too. My older juveniles just aren't big enough to merge with the grown adults yet....ugh!! I still need to put on a catch tray underneath. I had about 20 minutes help from the DH to do the door to my 'off the floor' brooder. After bouncing chicks around I finally finished up at 1:05AM. Wish he would have helped with the rest.

It would have gone a lot faster (geez, then I would have had time to clean the kitchen and do laundry
lau.gif
). Was back up at 4AM to do those. The other day I finished 300 feet of non-climb horse fence at the other property, with another 400 feet to go. Luckily the other 3 sides are already done.

So happy about that!! The last three days DH and I purchased almost 30 trees from Home Depot in Park City and the local feed store (20% to 75% off). Wonder who'll plant those....hmmmmmmm!!!
gig.gif
About half will go on the new property, which has NO trees!! They are deer resistant, drought tolerant shrubs and shade trees...YAY!!! The ones here are mostly fruit and flowering trees. Reading everything I've done is making me tired (yawn)... well... gotta get busy!! That is so very sad!!!! I feel for you!!!

Wish I could help..... too full here!! That makes me so mad

.... sometimes I just hate people (there I said it!!). They can be so cruel and unfeeling. Your place didn't hurt anyone by you having chickens. I'm afraid I wouldn't be happy there.

Thanks all for the sympathy. Everything is resolving itself now. Not the way I want it to be, but given the circumstances, in a relatively stress free manner. Funny, I get to keep the wheaten ams...

So are your Wheaten's Roos? I still can't believe how your house is setup they are giving you that much crap out your chickens. I'm so very sorry, I hate neighbor issues, and we have our fair share here.
