Utah!

It was good to see you, Red! I'm so excited to see how those Icees turn out. They are so cute!!! I'm getting desperate to cure that broody, so I think it was good for her to play w you for a bit.

Cynthia, glad your splash found a good home.

Silly, I'm laughing at your chickens resisting change. Hopefully they get the hang of it soon! I'm crossing my fingers you get a frizzle hen out of that batch.

I noticed one of my legbar pullets was closing her left eye today. She'd had someone pull out some of her topknot on that side a couple weeks ago. But it never got infected, and the feathers are coming back in. When I caught her, she opened the eye but it just didn't look quite right. No sign of infection at all. Any ideas as to what that could be?

Christie..not sure how to spell your name..I placed him is a better way of putting it I guess. I had him up for grabs. Red didn't get him in time to eat im though.

So my poor girls are so mad at me and they are actually tired this morning. Wendy too bad your 2 didn't get here yesterday, because everyone is so tired outside that I don't think they would bug them all that bad this morning. I wonder how much they slept this morning. I went out at 7:30 and let them out to free range, they all flew out, but now they are all sound asleep under the pine tree. Usually they are free ranging all morning. Poor babies, they didn't sleep well in their new coop. Makes me so sad, but they have so much more room in there. I give them a few days and they will love it.

Now on to the eggs. I have on Bantam Cochin that had to have hatched around the beginning of March, I got her around 2 weeks old in the middle of the month, so she is my oldest at 5 months old, then I have a RIR and EES hatch on Apr. 3rd. So I'm guess that they RIR should be getting close too. I have my nest boxes all in place in the new coop, along with shavings and straw in the boxes. How do I get them to sit in the boxes?

CHICK ID---

Anyone sure about what these chicks are? They were sold from the bantam bin at Cal Ranch. The second one is a boy, but not sure what breed---he is free to anyone wanting him (ya right!)
I wondered if it was an Aussie?

The first one has big feathered feet...maybe a cochin? Do the black ones have the white front as chicks?

Any positive ID would be greatly appreciated!

So far, out of my bresse eggs, I have one hatched (I had to assist), and one pipped, zipped, and died. The others are not showing signs of hatching yet.

My poor baby girl has strep. Rash all over her body to go with it. Back to life.

I am definitely not a good identifier!! Ugh!! The wait-and-see method is my sure fire way to identify...

Lisa, that first one looks very Cochin-like to me. I would almost guess Wyandotte on the second baby, but its legs are slate, so either it's very poor quality, or it's just plain not a 'dotte. Plus it has that single comb. Hmmm......

Cane, if you are anywhere close to me, I'd be happy to give you some barnyard mix eggs to do a test hatch on

I'm in West Valley, but I can venture out into the Tooele region.

I have a fourth chick! I came home from work and checked under my broody OE, certain that I'd find a dead chick, but nope! Found one live, healthy little baby peeping away and still damp. The hen was actually "talking" to it, too, which is really good. I am so not impressed with this hen's ability to brood. She's crushed several eggs while setting, including one I found today that had developed pretty far, then quit a couple of days ago, by the looks of things. And she refuses to take any chick except for what's hatched under her. If she stays with me, I'm not letting her hatch any more eggs. I love the eggs she lays, but she's not my first choice for a mama.
