Utah!

That pup is adorable. I want him. Bring him right on over. You can leave a doggy on my porch instead of a rooster. :D

If he does not quit peeing in the house he might show up! Keep your eyes out! haha!
I will have to post pics of the back of him, he is really wide for as tiny as he is , looks like a bear from behind when he walks (waddles) haha :) We sure have had a lot of fun with him. My DH calls him Howzer. Now stop peeing on the floor Howie! bad dog! At least he poops in the shower, not on the carpet....don't know why he started that but it is not as exasperating....we take him out about every 15 minutes. He goes outside too....but then inside :barnie
He has been wearing infant size 1 diapers all day today because I don't trust him :p

Maybe a pee pee pad? I know you probably want him to go out, ask to go out, but some of those little ones just don't like going out. Not in the heat, not in that wind, and not in that cold! My sister has pee pee pads for her Yorkies. They are the tiny ones. And they decide right then and there, as soon as that door opens, if it is nice enough weather to go out to do their duties. Spoiled little things. :)

Oh yes those are so nice! We did get a pack, and put them on the tiled area he is gated off in at night, and he uses them pretty well..then we take the gate down and let him out and about in the house, a few times a day for a few hours...he does not go back to them. I tried putting one by the sliding door that goes outside, and he does not do it--seems to like area rugs the most. Stink haha :) I sure am hoping he gets better. Or he will be wearing diapers..for awhile  He cannot walk very good in them, he spreads his legs really wide like he hates it. Pretty funny.

Hello everybody!!!!!

Hello evrybody!!!!

This is a very big newby asking some dumb questions....What kind of an incubator to buy? Probably a dozen eggs or so for chicken sized eggs. Let's see it should have an automatic turner, right?

.
As an owner of 1st) Little Giant
hmm.png
, which is the cheapest Styrofoam inc you can find; 2nd) a Farm Innovator
sad.png
(which I think is the second cheapest Styrofoam incubator, then 3rd) a huge Sportsman
big_smile.png
... here is my experience. The Little Giant worked fairly well if left in a room with static temps, internal temp and humidity is policed often and the inc is only opened when absolutely necessary My first hatch went well, my second hatch not so well and my third hatch, a nightmare... I tossed it!!!! My Farm Innovator I purchased with a turner but decided the turner was an unnecessary pain in the you-know-what. My first hatch was horrible however it was in a fluctuating temp room; when my neighbor borrowed it and kept it in her kitchen and checked the humidity and temp throughout the day, had a hatch of about 15% from her roo and hens. Only one Ebay egg of 60 hatched and the chick was malformed. My latest purchase was a Sportsman.... huge and expensive, however with a high 60% humidity and a steady 99.5 temp I get a 95% hatch on my flock eggs and generally a 30% hatch on Ebay eggs.

I've heard great things about the Brinsea!!!

I have only a couple broodys which I trust, however in the past my broodys usually become ill from spending TOO much time in the nest with their eggs, so I limit their broods. Right now I have a Barred Holland who is hatching a second clutch of Buff Orpington eggs that I placed under her. After these she'll not be allowed to sit. . I have a Buff Orpington which abandons her eggs at about 19 days so she's not trusted

. That is the problem with broodys... they can be either really good, or bad.

That is so cute!

Not a dumb question at all! However, I'm going to let the hatching gurus answer on this one. I'm not much good with incubators.

Ohh, I'm sorry you lost the one
sad.png
I need to figure out what is going on with my flock's genetics. If I have someone throwing malformed chicks, they're going to get booted from my breeding program. I'm glad that you still have the other two, though. I'd love to see pictures! Hoping the black one is a girl for you
smile.png
The color of it sounds a lot like Vona, the little one I lost earlier this year.
The blonde one also had a hard time hatching. It was 80% out then just laid there for a couple hours, I remember. I helped it out finally. I remember thinking it was going to die right after it hatched but it lasted all this time. It grew for about three weeks and then just stopped and started really having a hard time. The black and red are doing great!!! I have misplaced my camera so no pics yet.

Desert, I've had them last a while like that and pass. I'm so sorry. It's hard when you work with them for so long.

Brian said he loved your set ups!

Sara, Brian also liked your place. You two .. hope you know how lucky you are to live out where you can have all of these chickens! And horses!
Yea Cynthia... I had a feeling right from the first about this one. I find they have about three different times when they just 'go'.... one is about 4 days old, then about 8 weeks old, then again about 18 weeks old. UGH!!!

I really enjoyed Brian's visit!!!!

Hello canebeds, not sure on this. I love the feathered incubators they also raise them for you.
wink.png
Cynthia, Desert, Casa, any advice?
Hi Sara!! I only have a couple trusted feathered ones...lol.

I'm beating Sphinx to this - The total number of eggs that hatched for her was three. Fourth pipped internally and died, but had a really high, weird vault. I checked the eggs under my broody, and it looks like I still have two that are going strong.

I also love the feathered incubators.

I think 3 is the magic number for hatchings...lol.

Really hope your two hatch out

You are welcome to talk to my best broody duck who hatched 22 of 22 eggs. We call her Mega Mama.
Hi Pawtraitat!!! Yep, that duck knows what shes' doing!

Oh wow Cynthia he really IS gorgeous!

Brought my babies home from the fair. They are totally happy to be home! I don't think they fed the boys very much so they are eating like pigs. I wondered about that when I kept checking on them, their seeds were always eaten/missing and they were both trying to get to seeds outside of their cage just beyond their reach. Might have to take treats down to them if we do it again. I am so glad that is over I have worried about them.

Now if we can just get this puppy potty trained now that the fair chaos is over. What a stinker. Really a stinker ! Oh the update on his name--we named him "Howie". It totally fits his personality
smile.png

He seems to like to sleep with his head hanging down so the A/C blows on him. Spoiled baby
wink.png

Such a cute baby!!!!!!!

WOW! you folks are really opening my eyes! "I" thought that an incubator was an incubator!! Horrersssss!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mega Mama sounds great! I really thought it would be easier than this. But I guess that shows how dumb I really am.

I want to get an incubator too, and I have researching them, and everyone has their own thoughts on each one that I look at. Some have great reviews and other have really bad. But they all seem to have a learning curve. So I guess you just have to decide on what type you would like to work with and then choose one that would work best for you. But if you decide to get one, I would try a batch or two out on eggs that you can get local to make sure that you have it figured out before you spend big bucks on the ones that you really want.

If you want a feathered type... I have 25 Bantam Chicks sitting in my house. And from what I heard they make great Momma's. So with my luck since I will have about 5 Banties at my house, I will have 5 wanting to be a momma next springs. hehehe. But I love the littles.

So I decided to keep all 25 Bantams for at least 10 days to see how they feather out, well I guess minus the 8-10 that Brian is coming back for next week. My question is at what age would you start to see a Frizzle? I swear there are 3 in their with feathers that are coming in at 4 day old that are not laying straight, kind of curvy, making me excited. I'm praying that they are Frizzle, I would love one for my house.

This reminded me of the opposite thing we came across---Sphinx and I went to a house to pick up a Cuckoo Marans roo for Blujems...it was semi-obvious girl, the guy said it had been crowing.....we told him it looked like a pullet to make sure he knew, he insisted it was a roo. It was indeed a female lol. That never happens ! He must have mistaken some chatting for some crowing.

I have this girl now!

She honks!...it's hilarious!

Oh, Doughie, you need to take video of her honking! I'd love to see that.

Lisa, Howie is so adorable! I hope he is house trained soon.

Desert, interesting how you describe the yellow Icelandic chick hatching. I swear that's what the blonde one did that I hatched for Red. She was the first to hatch, and was most of the way out and just laid there. I've never seen one relax that close to being out. I hope it was a fluke and not an omen. I didn't help her out at all, and she was out in less than an hour.
