Utah!

Oh, Doughie, you need to take video of her honking! I'd love to see that.

Lisa, Howie is so adorable! I hope he is house trained soon.

Desert, interesting how you describe the yellow Icelandic chick hatching. I swear that's what the blonde one did that I hatched for Red. She was the first to hatch, and was most of the way out and just laid there. I've never seen one relax that close to being out. I hope it was a fluke and not an omen. I didn't help her out at all, and she was out in less than an hour.
Sphinx, I'm glad yours came out. The one I had just laid there for over two hours, on her/his back and seemed to be fading away. The baby had been really pasty and gooey and had actually dried to her remaining shell. I just couldn't take it any longer. I went in and turned her/him on her/his stomach and removed most of the shell which wasn't touching her/him. I allowed the membranes to finish breaking away by themselves. It was weaker than the others right from the start but seemed to snap out of it after about 4 days.

I'm hoping that coloration doesn't signal a genetic problem..... for Red's sake!!

Okay, while we talk about brrody hens and bators...how many Cemani eggs should I get if the viability rate is so low.....they are expensive.

I would get at least 18+ if you are trying to get a couple girls. 10-30 percent is about par for shipped eggs at my house. And 90 percent are boys! :D

Doughie, I had forgotten you got that girl, how funny that chicken made it all the way from SLC to Logan, and at least 4 of us on here know her. LOL She is famous! I think Red saw her that night we brought ther back too. Too funny :)

If I were you I'd make sure my hatching skills were tuned up before trying to hatch such expensive eggs. My neighbor paid a fortune on her first hatching try and then was devastated when her skills and knowledge of the inc she was using failed to hatch no more than one, which was malformed. Just sayin'

So I took a trip today and visited Sphinx for a short while to pick up my baby Icelandics. Oh, they are so darling! I see some topknots in there, and I think I have a good chance of getting at least one girl. I got to see Sphinx's coop setup and garden, too. And I've gotta tell ya, I'm jealous! That was a gorgeous yard and coop, and the chickens she has running around are beautiful. Houdini is such a handsome guy! Sphinx, sorry I roughed up your one broody, though. I couldn't believe how slippery she was.

Tonight I am putting my broody Wyandotte to the test. I put my three baby Icee's under her, when she already has a chick that is a few weeks old. I tried to put them under my OE, who has eggs due any time now, but she's pretty dumb and kept hissing at them and trying to peck them. I hope she doesn't kill any that hatch under her. Ugh.................Anyway, I put the babies in the trusty old brooder, but of course, I can't find my brooder lamp. The babies did NOT like the little nightlight, either, so Mama Stevie is babysitting tonight. If she kicks them out in the morning, I can put them back in the brooder. For now, though, they're okay.

So I stuck the girls in the new coop tonight. Boy were they mad and then my daughter went to go check on them, and they all ran out and went down to the old coop, so I had to gather them up one by one, and put them back in. I hope they will be okay in there tonight. I feel so bad that I just changed them all out. But its so much bigger, so hopefully they will be happy. On a side note, their food and water have been in there for weeks while we were finishing it off, so its not like they aren't used to being in there.

And I think I have a few frizzles in my bantam special bunch. So excited...
