Utah!

Thanks Lisa, I figured since my 5 year old got her up, she was okay, but I left to Girl Scouts and came home to her back in the nesting box, panting away. Glad its not like 100 plus out there, she really would be hating it. Poor girl. I figured my EEs would be laying before her since they are a 4 1/2 months old.

You are lucky yours is starting to lay..I have a gal that is 5 months old..wish she would lay..NN that it. The EE's can actually take quite a while..little stinks. I have had to wait a good 7 months several times through the years for them to start. I think it was Lisa that had an EE that took 9 months..or was that another breed Lisa?

Brian, I have fertile eggs you can set under your silkie when she goes broody again. I'd let her keep the baby around for a while to raise.

Silly, most of me is worried about your NN, but I have to admit I started giggling that she ran for it when your five year old came home.

I'm way worried about my Ollie the Ostrich too. I keep running out there checking on her, and she is really gray again, and you can tell she's frustrated. I don't know what to do for her. I'm hoping here in a little while she will be out of the box and up on the perch since its getting dark. How can I tell if she has a bound egg, I've heard of it. I will cry if something happens to her. I just love her to pieces. And she is usually very friendly, but she is grouchy all right. I know Lisa said that her's laid early, so my guess is she really is needing to lay an egg. I think Lisa said she hatched Middle of April, around the 18th, can't remember. So I'm guessing its possible.

I think I'm going to put Penguin 2.0 and Mr. Tate in the big coop tonight. The last few days no one has chased them anywhere. And Tate was even sitting up with the big girls today on the roost outside in the yard. So I think they will be okay to be moved in. I hope at least. Its been what, about 2 weeks of them here. I think they will be okay.

Well, I went to see the doctor today. Turns out I have Bronchitis, which almost made me laugh with relief. I'm glad it wasn't walking pneumonia! So now I'm on antibiotics, and my desk at work is getting a good, thorough cleaning tomorrow morning. I have been having some unpleasant struggles at work the past few weeks, and it's possible that I could lose my job because of work slowing down and there being too many employees. I'm really glad I had the health insurance to go today and get some meds.

Speaking of sick, poor Desert has the flu! Christina, you'd better try and rest and get feeling better, girly. You work way too hard.

Hope everyone else is well. I need to go to bed because my brain and hands are rebelling against me and I'm afraid I'm going to start sounding very silly in a moment here. Oh, and I moved my RIR and her BSL buddy out to Tooele the other day to give the half-naked EE hen out there a break. The RIR is my head hen. My jerk Ameraucana rooster came right over and thought he'd tell the new girls who was boss. Boy, did he get a whoopin'

Funny to watch him get humbled.

I found out today that the Roos that I sent out to Grantsville died in the fire out there. Well, the one I didn't hear about so I assume he is good, but the others are all gone, including my bresse boy. They died from smoke inhalation, I guess. The people and other animals survived, so that's the happy ending.

Oh, that is sad, Lilwanis. I'm glad the people are ok, but what a way for the poor birds to go.

Red, sorry about the bronchitis! I hope you feel better soon. Brush up that resume and start looking, just in case.

Desert, get over the flu- you're too busy to have time for this.

Silly, how is your NN today?

I went out to check on my broody this morning- she seemed flatter on her eggs than usual. I lifted her up, and at least 2-3 of my fbcm are pipped!

I can't wait to see them.

Lilwanis, that is so sad about the boys :( Sorry to hear about that!

Red, hope you are feeling better today, bronchitis is awful. Good vibes being sent your way for health AND continued employment! ugh!

You too Christina, hope you are getting the rest (and help!) you need to feel better soon.

Sphinx, so exciting about your babies! I really need to try the broody/raising/babies/thing. It sounds fun, but I am always too scared the mom won't stay on the eggs (control freak tendencies I think) haha :) Can't wait to see them!

Missing my Houdans rooster this morning. It seems so quiet outside. :/ My neighbors probably don't mind for sure, but I do kind of miss the cute noise he use to make. So far all the eggs I have set from the girls would not hatch, they have the bullseye but won't develop. Hmmm...going to try the rest of the eggs they lay this week, I had 4 in the incubator that I checked this morning and they are duds. I was hoping I could hatch another boy but might have to get chicks in the spring instead and start all over.

Oh Lil, I'm so sorry to hear about your boys. That is so sad.

Red and Desert, I hope your both feeling better.

And yes, the NN is doing fine today, all her color is back, and she has been out free ranging all morning. Maybe she's just not ready yet, and she's stressing herself out. hahaha. But it was about noon yesterday that she started in the box, and she stayed in there even after dark. I actually put her up on the roost when I put the 2 FBCM in the main coop. Everyone was happy this morning. Mr. Roo was still up on his roost right where I put them, but no one was having fits that they were in there, and no chasing him when I left them out.

Hello all!!

I just hired some help, finally. The problem... I'm too exhausted to even tell them what I want done for the day. Had them out this morning but was just too ill from exhaustion (and the flu, which I suspect is from the exhaustion) to even want to show them. I've spent way too much time working and on the road doing chicken stuff, and not enough time on myself and rest. I dream of chickens!!! Last night I had a dream in color that I was cleaning my house. During the dream Chuck Connors from the old Rifleman show walked into my dream (he wasn't in color, but instead in black and white and was carrying his rifle). He said, "Ma'am, I think you better check your light bulbs on your chicks 'cause they've burnt out and your chicks are getting cold and dying". Then he vanished. I bolted out of bed, grabbed my robe and zoomed outside to check the lights, which were fine. It wasn't even 4AM. UGH!!

This is typical!! I dream 'in chicken'!!

This morning I found one of my horses caught in a fence panel. She had rolled and flipped up against the panel, got her legs caught and had been there for hours, by the dry area under her and the wet from the rain storm around her. Since I only have two hands and she has four legs/feet I stood on her neck to keep her down, and maneuvered her hind legs out of the fence, all the while, soothing her and keeping her calm. She allowed it and then I worked to free her front legs. No neighbors were home and finally the hired guy, who is finishing the addition on the house, noticed me with the horse who had her hind legs in the air. Curious, he came over. I hadn't yelled for him, fearing the noise would startle her. She had been upside down long enough and her breathing was labored enough, she was in shock. I had him push her front legs back through the panels and I tried to flip her over. From being there for so long she would not roll over. With what I can only say is the strength of a mother lifting a car off her child, I grabbed a front leg and pulled her free of the fence (the wet dirt around her had to have helped!!!!!!!!!). This is a 900 pound horse!! After I had her up on her feet, I buckled over from the strain and fought to stay upright. It was then that my newly hired person I have coming in showed up, and my DH. I staggered from the effort and my exhaustion, shocked and surprised I had accomplished such a feat. Bet the handyman never back-talks me again!!! I heard him nervously relating the experience to DH, who is unbelieving at what happened, as am I, even though I was the one who did it!!!!! I've been in bed pretty much since then.... no surprise there!! I told DH that once the adrenaline wears off I'll probably find I've hurt something... I wouldn't be surprised!! I'm having DH do chores tonight whether he wants to or not.

Well, that's the latest excitement on the home front!! Too tired to scroll through thread... hope everyone is well. Bye for now from the workaholic!! LOL
