Utah!

Oh Cynthia, I am so sorry. I think sometimes chickens have birth defects/genetic defects. Think of all the human babies that look ok upon birth, but they quickly realize something is off? We examine them so much more closely than we do our chicks. I think it sometimes just happens.

Silly, I know that you really like Sheriff a lot. I hope for yours and your daughter's sake, she snaps out of it. Her behavior seems really odd though. I have no idea what to make of it. I really hope she gets better quickly.
I think you are right Sphinx, I just can't put a finger on it..no one else is ill. That was fast too. :/

Silly, I was reading somewhere about a hen that.was feared to also be egg bound. I can't remember where it was though. But anyway, ttheir girl wwas acting as strange, squatting, waddling sitting in the nest box. Then she finally had her first egg and was fine afterwards. I seem to remember someone else sating that sometimes they just freak out for a while.

I think if it were me, I'd leave her with the others, Silly. Especially if they're leaving her be. Moving to a different location can be really stressful for a bird, and that extra stress may make things worse. I'd try to just let her relax. if it is an injury, time will be the best fix.

Sundance, your vacation sounds like a lot of fun. Wish I was there.

Red, I'm sorry that you're feeling so stressed out. I hate yoga, but many people feel that it really helps stress levels. Maybe you could try it? Good luck to your BF. I hope it'll be over soon.

I really want to go to that Fancy show...I'd love to have some Silver Laced Wyandotte Bantams if anyone is heading to Southern Utah.

Anyone else cold this morning? I work in a little "security shack" outside of the turkey plant and my DH cleaned out my car the other day and took my jacket out. So here I am, freezing my butt off. Hoping the sun heats this little shack up quickly.

I love the fall. Its probably my favorite time of year. I don't much like the cold of winter though but here it comes. It seems like only yesterday we were asking each other for tips on how to keep our chickies cool now we will be asking about how to keep them warm. What are you guys doing? I'm thinking of getting some heavy duty plastic and covering my run. Also walling in the open side of the coop to keep the draft out. I wonder what my DH will throw together for that one? He doesn't seem to like using screws and nails. He wires things together lol.

As for venting to release moisture what do you do? How big are the vents and do you leave them open all the time? What about feed? Do you change it during the winter or just use the same stuff?

I just dunno. This will be my first winter trying to care for them. Last winter I wasn't addicted and DH just let them wander the yard. We lost several last winter. I don't want the same thing happening again.

Just have to put this little guy here.

I love him.
