What is everyone’s experience with shipping eggs during the winter/spring? I assume it is better to wait until the spring when the temperature gets a little better, when do you feel comfortable that you can have eggs shipped in and not have them get too cold during the shipping?

My neighbor is moving. She has chickens that need a new home....4 of them are 2 yr olds ( a BO, EE, GSL, and Australorp) and she has 4 that are this years Spring pullets and are laying, a Red Sex link from Birdguy, a Welsummer, an EE, and can't remember the last one....anybody want them? The 2 yr olds are free, the pullets she would like some money for, maybe 10 each. She lives in Logan .

Sorry but i have never tried eggs shipped in the mail. But if you can get them to hatch and stay alive in the cold they will be starting to lay in April and May. What kind of eggs are you thinking about?

hey great job! i do not think you have to worry about upsetting anyone on here by posting this and personally i enjoy seeing what people harvest i have not hunted pheasant yet but its possible i may do it one day. i do know how to butcher them tho as i feel that is a good skill to have as is knowing how to butcher any of the other local game. i think for the requirements on raising them i think i would talk to the dwr about it if you wanted to be sure you are doing it legally. but i think if you did it they would need to be in a covered run, even if its so you do not lose them. as far as i know there is not a lot of a difference if any of the wild pheasants and the ones people raise and actually i think a lot of the ones people hunt are planted?

6kidsfarm, I've only tried hatching shipped eggs once (twice, I guess, if you count the batch I did for Red). I was absolutely nutso (or smart?) and had eggs shipped to me from TN the second week of December. You know, the busiest mailing week of the year? She packaged the eggs really well, and while most of them had really wonky air cells, there wasn't any cracks. I had 5/7 hatch. A 6th one was fully formed, but died after internal pip. Another had a splayed leg and eventually had to be culled. But, I did get an amazing hatch rate. Only problem? I ordered GLW and got mutts instead. Well, actually, one of those eggs is a RIR, and is my oldest hen out in the yard.


Four of my hens have begun laying again. I'm finally getting eggs again!

Cynthia, I've never tried that VetRx, but it looks intriguing.

I'm home. had a bad asthma attack as I was getting my smaller coop ready to protect my Seramas from the hawk. Put me in the ER then in step down intensive care. hope all is well with everyone. Ed says hawk hasn't com,e back since he killed my chicks
