Utah!

I get my laying mash from Leland mill. It's only $15.

Yep..good ol Leland Mills. I fill a metal garbage can for 30 bucks. It's like getting a free bag of food, if you were to compare prices at IFA and Cal Ranch.
100 lbs of food goes into that metal can.

Here's a photo of my feed cans. Baby food up against the wall, Nothing right now in that second can, the third can, the largest has a lot of wheat and barley in it, and the last one up front has the lay mash in it. No mice this year.
Took this photo a couple of years ago, almost gone, and ready to go fill up again.

Feed: I buy my feed from Cache Commodities in Ogden. It seems like I pay $13 for a 50 lb bag of layer.

Melisa, Congrats on your girls laying so well in the wintertime.

I picked up another incubator today. It's a basic farm innovations bator- plastic wrapped styrofoam, and it came with an automatic turner AND a candler. Woot!

6kids, what kind of incubator do you have?

I'm in Ogden area. I should look into going to to Cache Commodities. Because last time I got feed from Cal Ranch is was 18.00. So expensive. Is it good???

The food at Lindon is a few dollars more then the food at Cal ranch or IFA, but its closer to me, and so I probably save on Gas. I try to watch the ads, and buy a few bags when its on sale.

Where is everyone getting their feed and about what are you paying for it? Does anyone have a good source for bulk layer mash? I just got a ton of a three/four grain mix from Delta for $9/50 lbs. I just cringe at what CAL/IFA charge.
I get mine from Pahvant Growers also. I only get 500 lbs at a time but the last 2 times i have got it it is a better mix. They use to leave a lot of husk in the mix that made a mess under the feeder but they must have got some complaint's so it have been really clean and more cracked. The best thing about them is they deliver to my house and unload it on a pallet for me. I do have to move it to the coops but that's what a wheelbarrow is for. The only draw back is its only 14% protein so egg production drops a little in the winter. I have been using this type of feed for the last 4 years and haven't seen any drawbacks other then winter production. I do add poultry supplement to their water that gives them everything that they need as far a minerals and vitamins.

I have tried the same the Kimmypie uses, (the lady in eagle mountain) but my flock does the same, picks out what they want and waste the rest.

My customer that buys eggs from me just informed me he raises bees, not sure raise is the right word. He got about 10 gallons of honey this year and most will go to waste. It is spun but not refined. I told him he should sale it but he doesn't know were to start. If anyone wants to buy some let me know.

Here is a picture of my eggs. just missing that dark chocolate egg

Lisa, the greens ones came from eggs from Sphinx. I have 3 OE and 1 SBE and the last one hasn't started to lay. She still looks like she has a couple weeks before she lays. She is pure black, maybe a chocolate egg layer.

So I decided to candle my eggs since its going on day 7. I for sure have the 2 bantam eggs and 2 light tan eggs from Gary that have veins, and black eye balls, so I for sure hopefully will have 4 hatch. The others have no noticeable eyeballs or veins, but they are much darker shells. The ones that I can see are very light eggs. So I guess we will wait till day 14. But hey, I will take 4 any day with my excited 5 year old. So hopefully all 4 of them hatch.
