Hey Red...i dont have a flowering crab apple tree but i do have a flowering crab apple bush. It used to be under control but since its the chickens favorite place during the spring, summer, and fall i just let it go. If you want a start or 10 let me know. There are hundreds of suckers coming up around the main bush. I also have some forsythia (golden rod) starts availble thanks to the chickens. I also have some double yellow wild roses to.
I love planting and gardening too. Too difficult to think about right now.
I bought a bunch of combination locks, and my coop is all padlocked. Of course yesterday, the little *(&*^ came back and tore the chicken wire away from the post, making a big hole. So, locks won't completely fix things. The police are involved now, and hopefully it'll be the end of things.
wow how frustrating. the kid sounds like he has major issues. and hopefully with the police involved it will stop him from doing things in the future, i mean can you imagine him as a teen? i would think of maybe a cheap security camera too, maybe look at harbor freight. i am so sorry you have to deal with thisI love planting and gardening too. Too difficult to think about right now.

did you know those thorns were commonly used as nails in the past? not so much now tho. the thorns may go away in time, when you think about it a young plant needs more of that protection. beautiful trees! you should think about a almond tree too. oh and you must check out a mimosa tree, its one of my all time favorites. those plant sales are great, they have different ones too so you can find one closer too. and sometimes you can get a few people to go in with you as getting a dozen trees or bushes can be a lot at times lol.I love honey locusts, too. The mother tree that this baby sapling came from is at least 60 years old and is huge. Excellent shade tree, and it's gorgeous in both Summer and Fall. Size is one reason I decided to try a transplant. I want a big treeI didn't know, though, that the honey locust can have thorns. Neither the mother tree nor the male tree we have out front has thorns, but this little one is developing them. If I could, I would love to have a beech tree. One of my great-something grandfathers was a botanist who settled in Nephi. There is still a male red beech tree there that was his. It's one of very, very few in this area of the country. When I was little, there were only two of them. There may be more now, I dunno. I also want to get a sprout from our crab apple tree.

Sweet! I'm going to keep this in mind. Thanks
And sorry for infecting you with the gardening madness, lol. I can't help it. I'm terribly excited! So many seeds, not enough pots and planters.
