Utah!

Haven't caught up on all of today's posts, but I saw Silly's predicament and wanted to add my two cents. This sounds a lot like what my cockerel was going through a little while back. He's started doing it again, and he must have some kind of vitamin deficiency. I was wondering earlier today if it was just the breed, but now I wonder if it has to do with the colder weather. Silly, just keep giving your girl vitamins and she should be okay. Vitamins have helped my boy quite a bit. I also added a little bit of game bird feed to his daily rations. It takes a few days for all of the new nutrients to get into their system, but it really does work. I was worried at first that I had Marek's in my flock, too, but thankfully that wasn't the case. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement

I feel much better. Last night, DH was going through his cold feet. Must be running through the house

Whatever will be, will be. Now I am super excited. I think I am going to buy a permaculture book and start diagramming the land with a long term plan. As long as I can change the color of the walls, I am good (they are very green right now).

Happy Heart's Day Everyone! Hope you all have a great and loving day today!

So update on Pokey, she is still in the house, her poop is a little runny :( She did lay an egg over night, it wasn't in there last night, so either last night or before 6:30 this morning when I checked on her. And its looks just like a little tiny Silkie Egg, so maybe it was her and not the one of the Silkies the other day. She seems to be eating and drinking. 1/2 of her bowl and food was gone this morning. But she is still not standing good. She was laying in there when I came up this morning, but since I changed out her paper towels, she is standing in there. I don't know what to do. I'm so sad. I called up to a bird Vet. They told me it was $69 to come in and around $300 to do a blood test. They told me that she could have possibly injured herself since she is standing, and not really completely falling over. But the only way to know is do an expensive blood work. And I hate to say it, but I really don't have the $400 or so for a chicken, specially since they told me that if she tested positive they would make me put her down, so I feel even that option is hopeless. So I'm praying she pulls through. I feel so awful.

And today is day 18, so I locked down the eggs. This time I only filled up all 3 tubes, and I but 2 separate containers full of water with sponges in them so that way they won't dry out as fast because of the container of water. Hoping that I can actually get the humidity up to 65%. Its been 2 hours now and its only at 48%. I did put one plug in, and hoping. I just hope I don't screw this hatch up, just because I have so many wigglers right now. If nothing hatches, I'm going to cry, because it will be 100% my fault. So all fingers crossed there.

Happy V-Day everybody!

Silly, I would not worry about the humidity. That much water is totally going to do the job. Just put one sponge under one of the vent holes, then if you need to add water in a day or two with a straw through the hole, you can drop it right onto the sponge without opening the bator. DO NOT OPEN THE BATOR :D That is the important part. And I agree, a bit lower temp is ok at hatch, I keep mine at 98 for lockdown too :D

Best of luck!

Okay, catching up.

Silly, I'll bet you have a great hatch! Hang in there. You will have little peepers before you know it.

Lil, that's wonderful that you found a nice big lot! Lots of room for chickens now

Our house is a bit older and we've done some renovation on it a few times. It's really not so bad. Good luck!

I got eleven eggs from my girls today

It's been a while since I've gotten that many in one day. Someone out there is laying beautifully speckled, dark pink eggs, and I suspect it's one of the pullets. They are gorgeous eggs. I'm going to turn into an egg coveter over the pink eggs, haha. Green, blue, and chocolate are fine, but the pinks are my weakness this year.

Thanks Red, I'm hoping for a good hatch, its been so nerve racking all day long, know from here on out, I can't do a thing but sit and wait. I've checked a few times to day on the humidity, both gauges I have in there are 55% so it is what it is I guess. And since I've added all the water the temp has been at 97-98 all day, but I'm just leaving it since I had a few people say its okay to turn it down. I have watched enough to have seen 6 different wigglers. So hopefully they are doing their thing, and will be out soon.

Pokey is still in the crate in the house up in my loft. She didn't eat as much today, but she is drinking tons and tons of water, and is now stating to have just straight liquid poop. But someone said it could be because she is drinking so much water. She is 100% standing on her own today though, I don't have to help her up, but that is all, just standing. I haven't seen her any where else in the crate other then where she has been all day long. I don't know what to make of it or what to do with her. Poor thing. She still has bright clear eye, and no coughing or sneezing. No heavy breathing and her vent is still nice and clean. I don't know what else to do. I'm almost out of the vitamin water that I made up, I only had enough to make a gallon left over from the feed store from last year, and I called and they are currently out. That's what I'm saying she has drank almost a full gallon of water in 2 days, is that normal? Anyways, I know people say you can get little kid vitamin drops, anyone heard of this? I might have to run to the store and get some since she is drinking like crazy.

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's.
