Also, if I do need to get rid of my hens...I have four Bresses hens and a gorgeous lavender ameracauna. The Bresse, for all their reputation as meat birds, are laying machines. They were my only girls laying through the winter. The marans girl lays decent dark eggs, all six of them before she went broody, but if someone is looking for a broody, she sure thinks that's her job.
If I can I want to keep my girls, but if not...those are the younger girls. The older girls are two now and slowing down on heir laying. Still doing a decent job, but instead of an egg a day it's more like three to five a week,
