Utah!

Cynthia, I saw your brooder on the brooder contest tread! That is awesome. Beats my now dog crate, which I'm going to be done using here once I get my chicken wire on the shipping crate that I just bought for a brooder for the garage for the Hatch along chicks.

You should really make them and sell them, I bet people would buy them up. :D I posted my shipping crate brooder for the older babies, and I had about 5 or so people PM me asking where they could get shipping crates like that, so crazy. But they really are super easy. It took me all of 5 minutes to cut out the door for the one I just made for the 6 week old babies to go outside. I still need to get the door on there, so I can lock them in. Maybe that will be this week project. They seemed fine last night, and I guess all boxed in they should be warm right? They are for the most part fully feathered now.

We originally made that for our mama dog and pups. But it makes for a great brooder. I told my DH he should make them and sell them. It wasn't too expensive to make. I have to go see yours now. :)

Karen, yours isn't done yet? Best hurry, I think it ends soon!

No I posted my 3 that I use, I just made a new one for this year chicks, because the other one is actually inside my larger walk in coop, and the girls have claimed it as their official nest box. Little stinks, I have 5 very nice nest boxes, and they want to go in the shipping crate. heheh

I put a 4-8 foot piece of coragated metal between my coop and the fence of my neighbor with dogs. This has kept his dogs from digging. I guess that since they can't see my girls they have list interest. Bird dogs might be different.

So we talked with the neighbors immediately bordering our property and who we share fence line with. 4 of the 5 told us they don't care and thought it was odd that we asked although the newest neighbor who's only been here a few months said he thought it was nice and we were only the 2nd neighbors he'd met.

The 5th has 2 terriers that come out in the yard and she was concerned the chickens would be loose and her dogs would dig under the fence. Also concerned the chickens would smell. My husband assured her that we would keep the coop clean and smell-free and that they wouldn't be loose unless we were out with them. He's also planning to dig down and pour a 3 or 4 inch concrete mowing strip along the fence line anyway but didn't tell her that.

A potential drawback is one of the backyard neighbors said the guy across the street from him had some silkies in his backyard and someone turned him in. So we introduced ourselves to him and got his story. He said the warning came in the mail and he doesn't know who turned him in but suspects it was 1 of 2 neighbors on his street so to beware.

We're thinking we'll insulate the coop walls to keep any potential noise down and keep sand and dirt in the run. Any other thoughts/suggestions?

So... I think my Bantam Cochin (I'm guessing Silver Laced) is a frizzle

Which also leads me to believe that my other Bantam Cochin (perhaps Splash coloring) that is a bit younger could possibly be as well :)

Heeheehee, bitsyhorse, congrats on your frizzles! That's like winning the lottery. Cute fluffy bum.....

I cracked open a few of the muddy turkey eggs this morning for omelets. All three were fertile! Yyeeeesssss!!
