Utah!

Ugh, Lisa! Call me a monster, but I don't know how you don't shoot that dog. I'm so sorry about Topaz. I was distraught when my brother's dog got my babies a couple of years ago. He was very strict with him after that and trained him that you DO NOT touch the chickens. It's a concern of mine when DH and I get a dog later on. I'm hoping to avoid the problem if we get a shepherding breed.

Hello there! I just wanted to connect with other poultry enthusiasts in my state. I live in the northern most rural part of Utah. I have 7 duck eggs in the incubator set to hatch the first part of May and next week I am headed out to pick up my order of chicks from IFA. I can't wait!!

Wow, so many sad stories. I am so sorry!

Sundance, I'm so sorry about Paper. I know how much you loved her. How is your hatch going now? Where's your webcam?! You have fbcm eggs from me, right?

Lisa, I am so sorry about Topaz. I'd be so sad. Was she broody? What are you doing with her eggs?

I have no experience with Chase farms. I do worry about anyone who is willing to take on random chickens from strangers. Seems like a biohazard nightmare.

I've been going back and forth on my silkie broody. Long story short, she switched nests partway through the hatch (another broody quit and she got confused about which nest was hers, so it effectively killed both hatches). So, none of her eggs will hatch tomorrow. I even went to two different feed stores yesterday, but didn't buy anything. I ended up giving her two new oe to hatch. Then, my little frizzle went broody too. She's an excellent mama, so I gave her two eggs as well. They both started them yesterday.

Goose update: Only 1 of my 6 are viable at 2 weeks in. :( My friend who gave them to me had 23, and it sounds like NONE of hers are alive.

Silly, I'm dying to hear how your hatch turns out. All of the OE from me should look like fbcm chicks.

Bald chick: Madchicken, was that you? I've had some that have the fluff, but it's not fluffed up. I've found that if I gently brush them with a soft toothbrush, they fluff up. If it's bad, I really have no clue- never seen that.

I have got some birds from kris with chase hatchery . They have been just fine . I'm goin to get more . I bought some from another lady and 11 out of 12 have died . And she had a great spread and beautiful birds . Sometimes chicken÷=!\ happens

Wendy, I wish I knew how my hatch was doing too. Sitting at classic skating with my kids, it was her think time reward from school, I waited till the last possible minute to leave too. When I left I had one OE, and She is a black beauty. I think she might have feathered legs too, but she just hatched, so who knows, I'm going to go home and hope to have more. None of the Ameraucana or OE were pipped when I left, just a few EEs, but I had 7 chicks when I left. Hoping for several pips when I get home.

I do have some from you but Ed kept messing with the humidity so who knows if they will hatch. One EE so far it has a frizzle dad so maybe. My new incubator has an automatic humidity pump so next hatch should go better

Any idea what this could be on my splash baby? I noticed it the other day. She's one of the biggest chicks so it would be weird if she were being picked on. She holds her own pretty good with everyone and ive never noticed anyone picking on another. They all seem to get along great so what in the world could this be? Its completely bald. Oh and her crop was very full because she'd just finished pigging out on boiled egg lol.

Is that her crop? Just see if it goes down after a while. I have seen this on some of mine at times when they were young, just not that big. Little piggy! :)
