Utah!

I am new to joining the BYC community. I have been raising chickens for the past year in Utah and am an urban garden enthusiast. I am putting together a business plan to open a new concept store in Utah and wanted to poll people for the feed that they buy and would like to see carried in the state of Utah. This will help me finish up the wholesale pricing for this new endeavor. Thanks in advance for the help!

I like to get my feed at the LeLand Mills here in Spanish Fork. Lay Mash is all I know it as.

I buy my chick food at Cal Ranch..I like theirs best...Nature Wise, Chicken Starter Grower, 18% Crumbles

Ha! Reread your question, now I'm laughing at myself. Gary put a note in..good comment on them being out and about to get into trouble with their feet getting hurt. I still know when I was hearing those birds jumping off of that roost, that it had to be the problem. Since I put the carpet in, no more problems. Knocking on wood!!

Lisa...I think I have a blue baby in this hatch! I decided to help these out since they have always had problems. Oh my goodness, the vaulted head on these. Now..for the beard! Can't tell yet, not dry, three have gotten free from the shell I left on..love it when they do that on their own once I start helping. One is a paint. The other two that were marked P for paint, were black. One had pipped at the very wrong end of the egg...didn't make it..black baby. So one paint, and on one foot..it has a double toe. What? The other two have nice looking feet. Like I said, one looks like a dark blue..will be able to tell better when they dry. It's hard to tell with the blacks and the dark blues. I will keep the paint anyway, see what happens. with the looks. :)

Is anyone going to Chicken Stock tomorrow that will be driving through Cache Valley and has fertile hatching eggs?

One of my "twins" went broody, and I want to stick something other than a golf ball under her! :) I'm right off the highway, so it would be super easy to drop off the eggs.

Greetings, chicken folk. Welcome to the newbies! Pull up a chair and chat a while.

Cynthia, so sorry about the white baby :(

ILMS, I'll bet Dixie looks cute with babies!

Sundance, any chance I could talk you into taking some turkey eggs up to Logan for Ace? Assuming you haven't already left?

I checked my turkey eggs in the incubator. One black cloud of death (possibly two) and six boring yolk blobs... Seriously, it's been at least two weeks. I hate hate hate this incubator :( I'm considering just shutting it off and tossing the eggs. And maybe trashing the bator. Piece of garbage.

Have you all seen this article?? http://www.ksl.com/?sid=29716198&nid=148&fm=home_page&s_cid=toppick4

"It will also let commuters know that the best way to prevent these tragedies is to go vegan, sparing turkeys from spending their entire short lives mired in waste on factory farms and then being crammed into trucks for a terrifying trip to the slaughterhouse."

TUKEYS MIRED IN WASTE!?!?!?! This woman has never been to Sanpete County I guess! I live there for two years and never saw anything like that. I went to school with the children of several turkey farmers and even visited their facilities. Yah, it's a sad thing that happened, and I am sure the turkeys felt fear but I really hate it when people like this woman who have never been around livestock claim to know how things they have no idea about!

Okay, rant over. Back to normal programming....

Rural, people like that drive me crazy, too. I won't rant on it here, but yeah. My turkeys get much better care than on a factory farm, but I still eat them. They get a good life with me and I don't feel bad about making good use of them.
