Utah!

Squee!!! I am on day 17 with some chocolate orpington bantams. It's been a very fun exciting time around here! We started out with 7 shipped eggs in our brinsea mini advance. After a couple of little hiccups we are down to 2 eggs. I have heard that sometimes bantam eggs can hatch early... well, after checking my water levels and making sure everything looked good... one of my eggs moved! I thought maybe it was my eyes. Nope! It's not rockin' n rollin' But it is definitely moving. :)

But now I'm not sure what to do! Should I lock them down? Isn't it too early for lockdown? help! I can't sit still! It's too bad that I already went for my run this morning. I feel like I could run a marathon right now!

Congrats! If it were me, I'd put them in lock down. Cause usually the egg moving is them getting into position to pip. If the egg keeps turning, they could malposition. This is just my opinion... So others should peep in too.

I just checked my broody as well... And I HAVE chicks too! My first broody clutch. I only saw one... And noticd another has pipped. I did t dAre move hem around. The one that pipped is gorgeous! A wheaten barred rock mix, I believe. It's a pretty blue color. Pics to come.

Thank you so much for the advice! I topped off the water, tucked them in and locked them down.

Since then I haven't seen much movement. I know it's just because I've been staring at them afraid to blink willing them to wiggle! My grandma always used to tell me a watched pot never boils! Guess I'll just cross everything I can

and try to find a project that will keep me busy for the next few days so that I don't drive myself crazy! lol!

Ace- congratulations! That is so exciting! How many eggs is she sitting on?

I'm baaaaaack from Europe! I had a marvelous time, but I did miss my kids like crazy.

You all were so incredibly chatty over the past two weeks that I can't possibly catch up. Did anything major happen?

abkoldewyn, I'm glad you locked those eggs down. If one is wiggling, it's awfully close. Probably within 48 hours you'll see a pip.

She started on 6. One didn't develop by my 7 day candling. Out of the five she was left with, one has hatched, one is almost unzipped, and two are pipped. Only one that isn't showing signs of hatching. Not bad odds!

Welcome back! The only new news here is I'm working on my new 8x8 coop and my broody is hatching her eggs today. This is my 1st broody experience! I feel more like a chicken grandpa than a chicken dad. Haha.

These chickens are driving me crazy!!! I just found another clutch of eggs in the same patch of vines as i did the other day. This time the OE's have seem to have talked my white EE into flying over the fence and laying eggs.

I found 20 eggs in this clutch! Looks like the flock is eating scrambled eggs for the next couple days (4-1/2 dozen so far) I know there is still one more nest some were because I'm not getting many brown eggs and i have 5 hens that lay brown. Oh ya and i haven't got a bantam egg in 2 weeks and i have 4 that are not broody and should be laying. I cant wait for my new flock to start laying in 3 months. I have 2 heritage RIR, 2 Welsummers and 2 LF Barred Cochins. All of which are very well behaved breeds, NON FLYERS.

Sounds like the ladies have gone native on you!!!! Haha. Cue Madagascar scenes....

On a more positive note, haha, my two wheaten barred rock crosses have hatched and are a lovely dark blue. My wheaten red star has hatched and is blonde with a little black spot on head, and my two wheaten Easter egger crosses have pipped. Today is day 22 on the hatch. I wonder if it is due to cooler temps at the beginning when the broody first started incubating.

Ps... Broodys are soooooo awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Pics to come soon hopefully.

Wow just got on to 212 new posts. You guys have been chattin. I've been busy, I did it! I finally got my Aussie puppy after wanting one for 8 years. And he is just perfect in every way. But no name... I've had him for 4 days now, and can't name the little guy.

But I was getting on to see if anyone had some fertile eggs. My little adorable cochin mix bantam is dead serious on sitting on eggs. She has been in the box for 4 days straight, even after I take them away and bring her back out, and she's even been sleeping in there. So darn it! I'm nervous to have her hatch eggs, probably because I don't know if she will sit the whole time, and then I will be leaving in July for 6 days. So I worry about her having little ones when I'm gone. Oh well. I guess they are chickens and thats what they do right? Just a few mixed ones will even be fine. I don't really want to spend a lot of money on them in case she gives up. Because I'm not in a position at the moment to incubate them if she quits. She will need to be momma!

So shoot me up if you have a few to spare. Or ways to get her out of the dang box.
