Utah!

Im looking for two cotchin pullets (dont care about details of color, etc. Or, two EE pullets. My 7 is now 5 and that's just not enough to support my addiction. word on the street is I can have a up to 15. The officer that inspected should have kept that quiet.

Ugh I know right? Plus none are laying now so I cannot collect more eggs, They are all broody. I guess I will wait patiently until the next round, and hopefully some of these will make it. Dumb styro bator. Boo.

How far along were they?
All of the duck eggs that came to my door this morning are alive but one! It had quit a long time ago. They weren't moving when I first got them, the eggs were soo cold. Now that they have warmed up, thought I would check and mark them. Now..if only I can get them to hatch. Call ducks are cute, but I'm reading they are one of the hardest ducks to hatch. For those that don't know, had a friend show up at my door bright and early with duck egg..a racoon got the mama. :( 13 eggs that are pretty far along. I will have to post a photo on the duck page I guess, and see how far along they thing they are. Wish me luck..the daughter was devastated that the mama was killed.

Ok...DIANA..she looks soooo good! And she looks soooo happy! I'm so happy for her. She says she is feeling so good now, and can do her chickens again.
We were all worried about you for a while Diana, but so happy that you can enjoy what you do best, loving animals. Having fun with them. You sure know your stuff when it comes to breeding them. Man, you tempted me with that big ol Herculese. Guess what? Just had someone ask me if I knew anyone with a rooster. :) I told her about yours. She lives in Eureaka though..and it takes time for her to get down this way. I told her that your boy is a frizzle. Waiting to hear back from her.

Lisa..maybe your eggs are ok..going to candle tonight..please don't tell me that you just set them the last few days. :/

I am so so sorry!  I wish that I could take him in!  We are in the same boat.  Live in a city that won't allow roos and our little frizzle Lizzie became a Lou.

:hugs
I'm sorry for you too. I was shocked at how fast those roos go at ifa, there were two quys waiting for the perfect fellow. Sal was a bantam so not too meaty but perfect hackle for that fly fisherman. I cant think about that tho. My friend teases me for treating them like pets. I hope I'll out egg her due to all the love and care they get. Haha

They were about ten days in. The quail were 7 days along....hoping....! Will candle tonight and see if there are any moving. I bet there will be some that are ok, but I worry how many might not be ok...sure hope your duck eggs make it!
I sure hope Hercules finds a good home. I so wish I could just sneak one more out there....Cynthia I actually wondered if you would end up getting him after you saw him haha! His babies are so cute. My blue baby from him has serious ringlets of frizz, I can't believe how curly.
Chickens...so many fun flavors, it is so hard to choose.

And Yes, Diana....:th
You are a whole different person this year, than last year! It is so wonderful you are feeling better!

Here is a link to a candled duck egg on each day of incubation: http://www.metzerfarms.com/Candling.cfm?CustID=2413373

That will probably help you figure out which day you are around. I had really good luck misting my eggs with room temperature water every day. It cooled the eggs down plus kept it humid. You will want to keep your eggs more humid than chicken eggs, but you probably already know that. :) Good luck! I can't wait to see the babies!!

Lisa, here is the NN with her new friends. Three EE's that I hatched, and one blue that Diana let me have. They will be a cute flock. Thank you, you two! First photo is at one end of the run..

This is where they sleep, you can see a board on the right side..that keeps the wind
from getting in, and their is a heat lamp above. Lisa..was this NN still getting some heat?
I may just turn it on later, and watch how they are with it. May lower, or put it up higher
according to how they are with it.

Anyone have this happen before? In all of my years having hens starting to lay, I have never seen this. I saw my Black OE go into a nest box, then she moved over to where the RIR had been..of course, have to use the same box. So excited to see what color she would lay. She was panting soo hard. I waited, then when I saw her out under the straight out coop, I hurried to go see. This is what I found. Two! The size of bantam eggs. No other chicken was in there but the RIR, and her brown one was in there too. I have no other chicken that is ready to lay a colored egg..they were hers.

She has been in the garage, so the cool night air may be new to her, but with snuggle buddies I would think she will be ok? No heat lamp, but the garage is really warm from the sunshine.

Ok, I will leave a lamp on, it's just a 100 W. bulb at this point for new babies. The three EE's have had a light in the nursery, so it will probably be a good thing. She was friendly when I went to see her in the kennel she was in at first. She came right up to the little door and peeked right up at me. :)
