Utah!

Thank you for the sweet offer! I don't "Need" chicks lol.... just saw the gimpy one and since I lost the buddy I purchased for my blind chick figured I'd try to save the life of the gimpy one and keep the two together. He wants them gone asap so if I can't find any help I'll just bury my head in the sand...

Iluv, this is the one I wanted to be a rooster. I was hoping the collar would work so I could breed. My hubby is out picking cherries, says, I just heard the little roo..that wasn't very loud. Well, he woke me up right at 6 this morning. My window is further away than where he is from the neighbors bedroom window. :/
Have you talked to your neighbors? Maybe they aren't bothered by him. Our next-door neighbors complain about the neighborhood dogs barking all the time so we were afraid to tell them that we were getting chickens. But when they coop went up they were super excited! Turns out that she spent summers on her grandparents farm and loves chickens. The other day she even told me that it's too bad that we aren't keeping our little roo because she loves to hear him "sing" in the morning. Who knew? Maybe your neighbors will surprise you! :)

Well, I'm not very handy at building things lol but yesterday I decided I was going to build a little 'chicky jail' inside the coop, so the 'littles' have a place to stay but be with the other chickens. They really seem to enjoy it!

I do have great neighbors. They have said that they don't hear my chickens. Hmmm? :) He says only when he is outside. This boy doesn't crow much, yet.

Have to share more pictures! Of chicks. Talk about muff that is coming from these eggs!! Oh man, this first brown one cracks me up! It isn't even all the way dry yet when I took the photo.

My Husband laughed when he saw it on the mat. It's just a fluff ball.

This black one is fluffy all the way around the neck too!

Came from the prettiest blue eggs. They are popping out like pop corn in there..a lot of whites. These are from two different places.

aaahhhh! cuteness overload!!! :D

and I love it when neighbors are like that ;) my neighbors say they don't mind my roo, but I worry about people walking along the back path.....

Any chance you could just kennel him in your garage at night? A pain, but it works if you have the time and want to do it....
He sure is beautiful! I would love to put him with my white silkies, I just don't know how to keep all these beautiful silkie roos in the one pen, I need to separate out the colors and do a few pens I think

QUESTION: Broody mamas. What do you guys do for water? If I put a little waterer on the ground that the chicks can reach, it gets filled with dirt from the hens scratching. Or shavings if I put it in the coop. Or the hens drink it in a flash. Is there a trick that I am missing here, what do you guys do?
Incredibly simple. Just use a horizontal nipple drinker. You can get the nipples directly from Susan at allboutchickens.com and put in a container of your choice. Then you won't ever have any worries plus the hen will teach the babies how to use it and you'll never have to deal with poopy or pine shaving clogged drinkers ever ever ever ever again. I hate poopy water so I just don't play that game anymore. Too much work and worry. An adult will teach themselves in less than a day.

I sooo need to do this. I have a bunch of the nipples, my DH bought a half dozen or so of them, and I just need to make the darn thing. I was really wanting to put something in the big dog house coop they are brooding in, there is no way to hang anything up in there. It is heavy plastic... But what if we make them a little ramp so they can get in and out of that (The lip of the door is about 6 inches up.) and put the waterer just outside the door hanging on the wire....does the mama teach the chicks how to get in and out of the coop if it is that low to the ground? I am so worried they won't get out of the house to the food and water.
