Utah!

Okay, so I really think my Silkie is a horrible mother or the chicks just think the Cochin is mom. The Silkie is always in the nest box, with no chicks. Even if I put them back under her, they just run back out to the Cochin. Its getting to the point where I just might move her out with the other Broody Silkie. Is this normal? She doesn't even talk to them, or really seems to interact with them much. Even when she is out and about she's not even staying with the chicks, the Cochin hoovers over them, but the Silkie is just like whatever. I don't know if she even realizes she is mom.

Since this is her fist time her body might be telling her he eggs hatched to soon and she still needs to sit on eggs. Who are the chicks sleeping under at night?

Both nights they were with the Cochin, even if I go and move them. The Silkie is okay with them if I put them under her, but its like she is just sitting on eggs still, she doesn't leave the box except to eat.

Just great, so now I need to get her eggs along with the other Silkie, or will they just quit one of these days?

You have some pretty silkies Gary. Which one are you thinking roo..that light one has a swept back hair do. ??

Thanks Cynthia. The first picture is the one but the flash made it look light. Its the one on the right sitting down in the group picture. It actually pretty dark. Hope it doesn't turn black could be hard to rehome. Here is a different view. Its bigger then all the rest.

Gary I went out earlier after you posted and all 4 was in the nest box with the Cochin, so I moved the 2 babies back. And yes, I keep moving the same 2, the Cochin has a chipmunk and black one that looks just like a Silkie, and then the Silkie has a light blue, and then on that almost looks like a Wyandotte. So I can tell them apart. Anyways, I just went back out, and each momma has 2 chicks. Hopefully she figures it out. I would hate for her to keep sitting.

So the Cochin has all 4 chicks again this morning. Do you think the Silkie would totally freak out if I take her out of the "baby hutch" and put her back out in the other next box with the other broody Silkie. Mind you that she is not sitting on any eggs. Nor has she really been sitting on anything for over a week. Kind of hilarious, its like she knows she needs to sit, so she just sits. LOL

Don't know the whole story but if she does not have chicks or eggs, I would try to break her from sitting without cause.
