Utah!

gotcha. I haven't seen either really.... I was looking to maybe get a couple of ducks...but trying to decide between those two I posted. I thought maybe the minis would be nice, seeing as they won't get as big as regulars.... but yeah.... anyways lol
Here is an old video from the summer of 2012 when I had my geese. Waterfowl are so much fun!! In the video the girls are investigating their new pool for the first time. It scares them a bit but they are rather quiet about it. Trust me, geese are MUCH louder than this!

Ducks and geese are so much fun. I think you would really like them. I have read that the WH's can be flighty. My SAs are really sweet and will eat right out of my hands and let me stroke them (that is a pretty big deal coming from a duck, they aren't usually as personable as chickens can be). The minis are call ducks that are bread to have the SA coloring from what I understand. I can't tell you much about them or their personalities but I have heard that incubating their eggs can be a bugger. SA hens can be loud!! Are you close to neighbors that might complain? If you are you might consider keeping a couple of drakes instead. They make a raspy noise rather than a loud quack.
I do have closeby neighbors... and probably are not 'allowed' to have ducks... (springville just barely allowed 6 hens, no roosters)....

maybe I should wait on ducks until next year (as much as I don't want to lol, I love those little buggers!)

Picture overload. Our grandson, and the splash silkie.
Poor little guy is scratching his face. She put some socks on his hands.

Yes, those are dimples..both sides! And yes, that's a smile already. :)

Silly, here is my spalsh silkie from a lot of different angles. I'm thinking girl.

A nice beard still showing. Going to look good. Maybe even as good as Dixie, the buff
I had.

Oh man.... any duck lovers that can go save these babies? (free) I don't know anything about ducks except they don't look like they are going to survive where they're at for long. They looked scared and cold. I work and have predators and nothing set up for ducks or I'd go get them.
alright... so I talked to the guy, he had 6 left. I asked the hubs, and he said no :( so, if someone would like, go grab em! they sound so cute. The guy is very VERY nice too.

I currently live in Layton, Utah but plan to move to Weber County here in the next few years. I want to keep my flock when I move but I know some cities don't allow backyard chickens.

Does anyone know if Clinton, Sunset or another city near that area allow chickens?

Karen, just like humans, it sounds like not all chickens are cut out to be mothers LOL!

I just set eggs----I tried to collect eggs from the best girls--big eggs and frequent layers, hoping they hatch, I read somewhere the bigger eggs are not as easy to hatch? Is that true? I have a couple hens I would love offspring from, hoping the laying gene passes down :D So, if anybody knows anyone on here looking for chicks...send 'em my way! There are some sex linked eggs in there, so there will be some "fo sho" girlies.

I am crazy I know. Never set this many before. BUT my excuse is, I am trying to see who has fertile eggs, and I am sure some won't be....although so far all that I have tried have worked :p I might be over run with birds if no one is buying chicks this late in the season, haha! But it will be fun. Some of these hens lay really big eggs, I hope they hatch ok. :fl
