wow liz good job

After iluv's horrible experience with bugs I've been super paranoid. I've been obsessively checking my girls every day. Especially my little silkie girls. This morning I actually found 5-6 little critters on one of my fluffies. I'm pretty sure that it's lice. Ugh! I think I checked and rechecked everyone 2 or 3 times and that is all I could see.

I will be treating her for sure! Should I go berzerk and treat the whole flock and sanitize the coop? I'm a bit of a clean freak and scrub my little coop and change the shavings in the run once a week. At the very least I'll scrub it now, but how crazy clean-freaky should I get?
Oh no! It's frustrating isent it :( Its been such a stressful week with Ellie. She looks so much better and is back with the flock now but she's still "Off" and doesent ask like herself. I see her eating but havent seen her drink yet (who knows if she is though) so to be safe im still giving her water with vitamin & electrolites everyday with syringe. She's hating it now though and is giving a bigger fight which is probably a good sign shes feeling better. She still wont jump in the coop by herself and join the other girls like she used to and she seems very antisocial. I am concerned about possible brain damage or something, but I tend to get paranoid that way. Im hoping its just that she needs more time to feel better. I just hope she gets back to normal before I go into have my baby because once she gets here i'll be very distracted.

So I am starting to feel more confident that this chick that I got from Lisa, could be a girl!! Woo hoo lol. I've been watching it, and the crest is starting to come in more rounded now, and its comb hasent really been raising anymore, so im really crossing my fingers for a girl! :) What do you all think?

Also I am loving how my black is turning out! She has such a sweet face, i love her :) What do you think of her quality ??

Liz, if your frizzle starts to look boyish be sure to let me know and you can have one of the frizzles if these eggs hatch :D

About the Box Elder Fair meet up, If I am not working I would definitely try to come! I think we are going to do the rodeo, it looks fun!

My favorite night of the rodeo is Wednesday- bulls, broncs and barrels. I like to watch the bulls. My husband tells me that barrels are the most dangerous at a rodeo.... Cause you could get trampled running to the cook shack...har har. Hope to see you around :)

Lisa: I forgot to tell you that B'Jewel has now laid two eggs and they have the cute freckles you described. They are nice and big and tasty too.
When she has most of her feathers back I will be sure to send you a picture.

Regarding watering nipples, I do believe the horizontal ones to be hand over fist better than vertical ones. My Bantys are doing great on them. I waited a week or two, so as they were big enough to 'push' on the plunger and they have not looked back. I have found some, what I think are nice five gallon bucket heaters for my winter use. It takes a 'lot' more cold to freeze up a horizontal nipple than a vertical one. Plus they don't tend to leak if just bumped, and I feel that eye level is best for drinking, at least for birds that is.

If you are going to do nipples, do it right the first time and use the type shown below. Highly recommended by none other than RJ himself.

My 59 Banty bird clutch hitting the horizontal nipples for the first time, about 3 weeks ago.

Best to all and their birds, grandson is cute, looks just like me.

Edit: If anyone is having problems and or trouble getting going on the horizontal nipples, I would be glad to help out. Also please note the first use of the smiley thing above, I learn somthin every day.

Nice looking chicks. I love the beard and fluff on that black one. Just curious but do you still have the one that came from me? I have eggs hatching out in the coops today and through the night and i see a couple that look like that one. One is really chipmunk striped. If you do can you post a picture so i might have a better idea what they might look like.I am a little concerned about the three hens that hatched chicks after Lisa's experience. But two of them raised three chicks together so maybe it will be ok.
