Utah!

I am selling some of my younger birds. If any catches your interest let me know. Putting them on KSL this weekend. Need to make room for the seven that just hatched under the broody's and the seven that i have in the incubator.

still not sure about these two. The splash has this big hump on its back but only on one side. Kind of like a hunch back. It was born this way so i figured i would give it a chance. the dark one is a nice looking bird. Should make a good hen/rooster for breeding. About 14 weeks old

Sorry about the quality but these little buggers are fast!
Smooth sizzle. about 9 weeks old

Here is the other smooth. I'm keeping the frizzled one for now. Hope its a pullet.
These little smooth have big beards and big crowns all ready, they will be really neat looking when the mature.
I also have two mixed chicks that I'm not sure who the hen was. One is completely wild and has been on its own since it was about 3 weeks old. It was sleeping in a bush but i think it has joined the main flock in the big coop. The other is a little drama queen and requires the momma Silkies full attention. Guess this is what happens when you are an only child. Either you a mommas boy or a trouble maker.
That lil black is sure cute. Very tempting. I have a black im watching already though so I feel like I have to stay strong and not double up on colors. If you have any paint, or other more unique colors let me know ;)

Update on lil Ellie:
Do you think her being so sick but surviving, could have possibly caused any kind of brain damage issues?? She seems alot better to me, and is eating and showing interest in her waterer so I am pretty sure she's drinking. But I have still been giving her liquids with vitmain/electrolites 1-2 times a day by syringe. But she's not behaving like she used to. She used to be just as entertaining as the rest of the flock and just as active and alert. But she's been very secluded, and off to herself. She's slow and doesent play or anything. The rest of the flock ignores her and she doesent interact with them. She doesent appear stressed or anything, she just seems to be different now. I open the door to the run and they all come running out excited and talking, but she stays in there by herself not even noticing the door is open or care. She's way too slow to get any snacks we put down, and doesent seem as enthusiastic as them. But the most disturbing is at night when everyone goes into their house/coop for the night, she's the only one still out and is just laying by the coop door. There's about an 6-8in clearance where they have to jump in and they do but she doesent. She just lays right there by the door opening instead of taking the 1 second jump to get inside. She never used to do this. She used to go in there with the rest and they'd all sleep in a ball. I have had to go out there every night now to check on her and I always find Only her by herself laying on the outside of the coop right by the door and I have to put her in. Tonight I didnt get a chance to get out there till later and the sprinklers were going off.. so there she was getting totally soaking wet just laying by the coop door again! Even the water getting her wasent enough motivation for her to jump in?? I put her inside and closed the door. I just dont get it. Why is she suddenly not doing these little things that she used to do anymore? I keep worrying about brain damage or something because if thats the case then I dont know what im suppose to do. I love her, but with a new baby coming, and then winter on its way, i just dont have the time or mental state to care for a special needs hen right now :( I dont want to worry about her everyday, and worry about loosing her due to me being busy and distracted. I dont really want to give her away because I really like her and she's soo nice looking when her crest grows back out, but im just concerned with her mental state now. Any ideas?

Iluv, I wonder if Ellie is still "out of it" from being sick. Having her gone from the flock for that short time may have changed the pecking order, too. I had some pullets that were raised together and were te best of friends, but after they separated for a bit and were then put back together, they started bullying each other. I wasn't very happy.

Sorry about Ellie, perhaps she just needs time. Love the flock pictures, you guys keep some interesting birds for sure. I've had ducks… a few turkeys but never together like this. A very interesting mix to say the least. We had some blustery weather last evening and early this morning as I was out, I heard and then saw a V shaped flock of geese going out to feed in the fields. Things are starting to have that tinge of autumn feel about them. It has been so hot, at least for me, that I suppose I welcome it.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

She was very ill and the bugs sucked her blood I suspect almost dry. Its going to take some time for her body to make more blood. chickens are so small any type of blood loss can be dramatic . I suspect she will get better but it will take time. I would keep her in a really warm place at night and put her out with the flock during the day. I know you don't want to have to do that but in the long run keeping her warm will help her recover.

I've been noticing that to. She seems to be on the very bottom of the pecking order. She doesent do anything but stand there and walk around slowly and even her closest friends ignore her. This morning I noticed one of the youngest ones was in higher rank then her, and would peck at her face to push her away and she'd just back down and walk away.

Her coop is warm and secure, full of bedding. And it's still been nice temperature at night. She just needs to jump into it lol. Ive been putting her in there and she's fine and goes to sleep. If I see the problem get worse I will seperate her if I have to but I am going to be full time on my new baby next week, and im already a nervous wreck :s I really want to do whatever I need to but I have been very stressed and baby is going to take alot out of me for the bit lil bit :( I wish I knew what kind of bugs they were for sure. All the research I did, said that alot of the bugs on chickens didnt nesisarily suck their blood but would chew on the feathers and destroy them. I didnt see any trauma to her skin where I saw the bugs, so its hard to say.

I would say that something you can do for her is to just make sure she gets lots of love and attention, but I understand your predicament with the baby arriving soon. I wish I lived a lot closer - I'd come help you with that.

RJ, it's definitely starting to look and feel Fallish. I have four birds mounting now, and they're varying degrees of scruffy. I'm glad they're getting started now, rather than in the deep of winter. I'm still looking forward to the cold, though :)
