Utah!

I haven't been on in weeks. Been so very busy here with work. But I had to jump on and tell RedIII I got my first egg from Elsa. The big huge black pullet that I hatched from your eggs in Feb. Well it was a nice little egg. It looks more blue then green. So I'm super excited! I should have taken a picture of it, but my daughter had to eat it. Elsa of course is her new favorite chicken, because she watched her hatch. Blahahah! She is too much.

I feel like I'm back in the 90's with a slow computer on here today.

I helped my friend and her kids take their chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs to the Utah county fair today I didn;t know the judging was today so I had washed the chickens and they were a bit damp at the fair, The judging was still going on but her black and white Serama was second best hen. It was a bit different fair as you had to bring your own cage and let me tell tou it was a hodge podge, Here are some pictures

Very pretty birds, the bring your own cage thing must be a hoot. Are there enough birds to make going to the Utah County fair worth the time for me? Do they have to feed and water their own birds as well? That is so very nice of you to help your friend and kids with the fair.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

I wouldn't make the trip for the Utah county fair unless you want to see the hodge podge of cages. Owners are required to feed and water their birds twice a day, will I see you saturday at Box elder.

There is definitely a good side to that...although the cages are not uniform and not as eye appealing, the spread of germs and bugs is a lot less likely...and at least you know your birds have food and water this way. I ended up feeding mine here in Logan just to make sure they were getting enough, the water stayed full for the most part but the handfuls or scratch they got on the floor of their cage was not enough. My Houdans was starving everytime and woofed down quite a bit of treats when I went in to see her. She even ate her own egg and it messed her hairdo up really bad. Ya they would make it through, but I want my babies to be content not stressed out lol! Poor things. Your friends serama's are very cute!

Ha! I wondered who's those were! I had to chuckle as I walked around. Most of those LF birds are birds that I hatched. he he..yes, people have bought from me around here too. Those two big Rhodebar Roos...are some that I hatched. I saw a few silkies there..big boys that I hatched. Rhodebar Pullets..Brandi put my girl in..she's keeping her after..but I thought, sure would be nice to get a ribbon of some sort after all of these yrs. of doings chicks and chickens. We'll see..there is another Rhodebar hen in there. If the judges know their stuff, the darker hen is the one that is supposedly better in coloring.. the hen should be darker than the one I put in, but I like the lighter personally.
I was there while they were judging for a while. Didn't see them take one chicken out. hmmmm?? A lot of chickens there this yr..thanks to Brandi! She did a great job advertising. First big show of bunnies and chickens that we've had in yrs. I had to cuss the kids out sitting in their chairs..yep, but no real cuss words..lol..I told them, that there were chickens in there with no water..already. I said, you will really need to keep a constant eye out this yr. This is the most you've had here in a long time. Chickens NEED water, more than food in short term. There was a lot of panting going on, and it was windy and cool. :/
Whose NN? I told DH, my white girl would win over that one, and my Gladys too.

The white girl has grown a lot all of a sudden. One from sundances eggs. Sooo pretty. My Gladys came from shipped eggs. She is about the same color as this NN in the photo, but has a real big bow tie. Has the sweetest eyes. I looked into the eyes of the NN there..she is a sweetheart too, you can just tell.
