Utah!

some of you need to get hatching more chicks so the thread becomes more active lol :p so i thought i would remind all of you if you have any leaves you know chickens are great at shredding them, i just throw some scratch down and they go to town and seem to have a lot of fun doing so. i then take the shredded leaves that naturally have some chicken manure mixed in and then put it in the garden, flowerbeds etc, its fantastic for plants :)

Yaaay! Better luck on air cells this time? Hope they are doing good :D

I am hoping to hatch SBELS in late January...along with some more shizzles...but until then I am taking a break. Much needed one haha! I am trying to deal with chicks in the garage and getting them out used to the cold temps its too much work hauling them around.

Ya there's only two but the air cells look much better. I left these ones in the bator. One of them though the air cell is normal shaped but getting bigger and bigger, almost half the egg. Have the humidity in the 70's. Should hopefully be hatching anytime.

Good luck! I want to see you get chicks soooo bad. Crossies for those two eggs!

Birdman, I've been throwing leaves into my coops/pens along with straw for the girls to dig through. I figure it will make fantastic mulch :)

Ace, I've had that with my chicks, too. I have found that if you start handling broody-raised chicks right after the momma weans them, it's a lot easier to tame them. You have to do it within a certain window of time, though. Like a week or a week and a half, is what my experience had been. Anything beyond that, and they stay wild. You have to work with them frequently, though. I did that with one of the chicks a broody of mine had, and she was so sweet and personable after that.

It's also why I'm happy to be hand raising our little turkeys.

Good morning! Hope everyone is staying warm. Who else got snow last night? My chickens were up cussing the cold temps during breakfast. Most all of them are sitting up in their tree sulking.

Good Morning Red!

We had a dusting up on the benches, not too bad. The water was not frozen this morning, that surprised me! I need to get the heated ones set up pretty soon. I locked the henhouse door last night, I do that to keep the rooster in there until 8 or so, so that he is not too noisy early in the a.m....but I see this morning I have 6 girls who slept on a roostbar in the run last night, I bet they wish they had gone in the house, brrrr!

Also starting to see signs of mice again....and so the battle begins.
