Utah!

The thing I try and make sure of when buying from Cal Ranch or IFA is..that I get the chicks when they JUST come in.  Not much handling by other people.  I prefer Cal Ranch over IFA too..at least here in Spanish Fork.  I will go for the egg layers there.   I love the Sex Links and the Leghorns.  :)   If I luck out and show up when they have NN's or silkies..I have to look..oh, and I love love bantam cochins.  :D

I used to work at that Cal Ranch! Lol I may
have helped you with the chicks at one time since when I worked there I was the only one who could tell what breed each chick was. And the differences in the breeds personalities/attributes...no one else really cared to learn that for the customers, but maybe that's changed now since I have been gone for a couple of years when I got married and moved to the outskirts of cedar city.

I need to stop following this thread, with all this talk about chicks.... Unless of course anyone is breeding austrlorps... I could make room for two more of those... And I may be able to make room for a maran or two... And a favorelle... ;) But seriously the wiser thing would be to stop following you all. I'm going to get in trouble.

We aim to please. Haha.

And yes I have Marans, lots and lots :D Wheaten, Black Copper, Blue Copper, and Golden Cuckoo with a Blue Copper Roo over them all. So now this is burned into your brain even if you leave this thread, you will be back!

Sundancen, I will get as many SBEL eggs as I can. I messaged him, and have not heard back, he said to remind him in January so he could pair up his rooster Biscuit with the leghorn hens. So, it will be a few weeks after I get ahold of him before I can pick up eggs....they are so worth it though. They are the best SBELS I have had. :D

What is a really good dual purpose chicken that lays well and at least seven pound hens?

Friend, may I recommend the Jersey Giant? Plymouth Rocks are also great, though not quite as big. The Giants get huge, though. I *think* they make decent layers.

Gus, hahaha - Welcome to the Utah thread, where mad chick offerings abound :) And while we're on the topic, I hope to have Icelandic eggs available come Spring ...... Assuming my ladies deign to grace me with eggs at that point. They're so fickle when caged!

The Cal Ranch in Tooele usually has a pretty basic selection of the layer and dual purpose breeds of chicks, nothing fancy. But they do take good care of them and are very friendly to work with.

What kind of layers are Icelandics? They are beautiful. I need beauty coupled with good laying ability. But what is this need business?? I don't need anymore. I'm actually at the limit of how many I'm allowed by law. I just keep trying to think of ways to justify them to myself. Alas, the life of a chicken keeper.

SIlkie lover---buff orps may work for you too!

RED! Sign me up for a couple Icelandic chicks (assuming we cannot sex them). Or hatching eggs. Or a pullet. My DH has wanted an Icelandic hen forever. Ace and I hatched some last year and they were ALL boys!

That is definitely on my wish list this year.

Setting more shizzle eggs in a couple weeks if anyone is interested :D Just waiting for the last one to stop being broody. Now watch the rest of them start again before she is done haha :D

I need help! I have 5 RIR that aren't laying anymore. At this time I need to just get rid of them. Does anyone want them or know anyone that would want them? I am in the Ogden area. They are free to anyone that wants them. Thanks
