Utah!

Roundy, very sorry you lost your Brahma, and Littlerockflowr, sorry that you lost your BR, too.

RJ, when I set up a brooding area, my primary concern is safety from outside threats (anything outside of the brooder station) including other chickens. A close second is the insulation and warmth of the area.

I had a hen brooding inside of a large wire dog kennel once, and the other chickens outside of the cage pulled a chick through and killed it. So hardware cloth probably wouldn't be a bad thing to use. I also like to have some kind of lock on the door to wherever the brooder is to keep unwelcome hands out of my chicks. I have had that happen, too.

Brian, I've been good, thanks :) Looks like your BR boy is going to be tall! I had a cockerel a couple of years ago and I just loved him. I could carry him around like a puppy. He went to a home with little kids :) and the rooster pictures above is one of my Icelandic boys, Sven.

RJ, I'm beside myself about what to do so far as hatching. DH insists on getting a better bator, but I'm really having a hard time with spending that much right now. However, none of my girls have yet decided to go broody, and if I am to breed these, then I need a reliable incubator. And I want chickies so bad! If I can get some to hatch out this spring, maybe we can work something out for you? Desert Springs also has them. She got her stock from me :) Shawn (TheBirdGuy) also keeps them. I got some of my birds from him.

I hate to enable, (ok, actually I don't feel one bit bad), but because icelandics are so rare, I bet you could sell a lot of the chicks! It wouldn't make up for the whole incubator, but would pay for a nice chunk!

Are all of you aware of the incubation service at 4195 S. 900 E. in SLC? I just picked up some chicks he hatched for me and he has an amazing hatching facility. He told me he has bout 7500 eggs in his incubators currently. He only charges 30 cents an egg.

I have tolbunt, isbar, and cream legbar chicks if anyone wants some.

Two things.
#1. Birdman Brad. Seriously. You have been wanting some legbars the ENTIRE time I have been on BYC. Just break down and do it already. LOL. Your BSL's will forgive you...

#2. Red, if your DH wants to be that sweet you are one lucky gal and it would make him feel good and you would hate to deprive him of that joy, yes? Just trying to enable you a little further. There are lots of people that would buy chicks I am sure!

......And a small #3, making a mental note that I wanted tolbunts for two years and now Derald has some two weeks after I swore no more Polish to focus on the Houdans project. I super resent that I made that declaration of a Polish free zone.... :smack Thank you Derald haha
