Utah!

Ok I have to jump in and tell this adorable story. I have a trio of Old English Game Bantams and I hatched out a few chicks a month ago and have been selling them ever since. Well it came down to the very last little girl left alone with a bunch of bantam orpington chicks. Well a few days ago my nephews serama chicks hatched and he got 2 more than he was wanting to keep so I sold them to a local guy at one day old. He came by and I walked him through the garage hoping to talk him into the last little girl since they would be close in size to the serama's. I warned him that she is a month old and the chicks are only 1 day so they may have to be kept separate. He said he had the set up and fell in love with her so he took her as well. Today I got this picture. At four weeks old she was pretty sure these babies were hers! She's not even fully feathered yet!
Haha! Wow! She needs to be on the chicken version of "Sixteen and Pregnant"... Maybe you could call it "Four Weeks and Broody"!

Oh my gosh I just laughed so hard I cried. Even my DH laughed and he's a hard one to crack.

I was amazed. I've never been able to keep chicks that were so young with chicks that were older like that. The young ones always try to get under the older chicks and when they're not fully mature they usually don't like that. I've even had older chicks kill younger ones just by pecking them so ya I was surprised to say the least!

Thanks Silly, glad to hear she is doing well. And also really happy to know that she is still doing that for the school. Those kids love that. Next time you hear from her, tell her that we were wondering about her and say hi.

I'm home! DH and I were in Arizona for a few days to celebrate our anniversary, and it's so good to be home. My girls left me lots of presents while we were gone. I've got the incubator warming back up and will be making another try with the hatching thing. 22 eggs total! I'll be checking my thermometer with ice water before putting it in to make sure it is working right. I really need to hatch some chicks, you see :)

Birdman, congrats on your new babies! It is so much fun to hand raise them from baby size.

Who else has seen the commercial with the free range chicken? It is making me want another BO. I love that hen's sweet face.

Okay sorry, I am a little too giddy and chatty this morning. Still kind of in lala land from the lack of sleep yesterday.

ETA - Sambi, love that picture of the tiny momma!

I love that commercial!

Red if you ever want someone to hatch you some chicks, my kids love to do it, and I will gladly give you everyone of them back after day 3. That's when they seem to be like okay, they are chicks and get bored with them. HeHe

So at 11:30pm I'm at day 18

Now lets hope at least 24 of them hatch. I'm kind of worried about them since the dang incubator has had that day at 97 and then spiked to 102 for a few hours. So excited to go in lock down after tonight's rotations. I might have little fuzzy butts hopefully by Wed/Thursday night.

I go into lock down tomorrow. Only two of those marans eggs were fertile, unless the shipping did a number on them, but I didn't see blood in any of them when I opened them, well one, it was a blood ring though.
These two that are left..crossing fingers..one has a very high air sac on both sides..if that chick is alive, hope it comes out normal. :/
So, since this didn't work out, I am getting some more blues and some OE marans from a guy in Vernon. He works in Spanish Fork and will bring me some eggs. His eggs looked as nice as these. Bet they do better. I noticed his black Marans is a clean legged boy. I guess that's a biggy in Britian..they only accept those in shows. Here, other way around, feathered feet. I personally don't mind..I just like the color of those eggs!
