Utah!

I have a chirper in the incubator. I can't tell which one. I wish it would hurry up and poke a hole out of the shell already. I'm worried its going to get stuck, still hovering around 50% humidity in there. But once 1st baby is out, then it will be fine... Just hurry up little fuzzy butt.

I'm so sad! All 7 of my eggs were doing awesome, but the power has been out for 3 hours!!! I put some warm water on the eggs. I hope they make it!

I am impressed by this idea you have. I hope they all hatch! My very first hatch was accidentally unplugged by my dog overnight and the eggs were ice cold at 67 degrees on day 17. I went to dump them out, and opened one...It had a live chick so I put the rest back and I plugged them back in and they hatched! I could not believe it! Red got two wyandottes from that hatch and they were fine so crossies for you Ace!

Heehee, I love those girls. Angel is one of my best layers and they are so FLUFFY! :)

Here is a picture of Mr squiggs surrounded by all his hens:) he's a lucky boy. He is the sweetest chicken ever! He brought me food and dropped it at my feet and started talking to me. He is so silly.

i know this has been talked about before but will someone explain feather sexing for me? can it be used on a barred rock? i ask because i notice that one of my chicks wing feathers are coming in a bit differently than her sister. i hope they are all girls. maybe i am just paranoid? i got them as day olds on the 27th of march

Brad, the barred rocks are easy to tell by the faster feathering, and also by how the stripes come in. If I remember, yours are still pretty young, but the pullet will have a darker pattern than the cockeral. He's more light in pattern. It's a bit late to do the short .. long..feather tipping check. If those wing feathers are out there quite a ways, then they should be girls..and oh yes, the tails could be starting too.

thanks for the tips. i will look at them again in the morning as they all are sleeping and i dont want to wake them up. they are so cute. its funny even as chicks how they get excited to see you

Hmm true, Brahmas could cover more eggs :D I'm very slightly tempted right now by the big, friendly breeds because DH's granddaughter likes to come see the chickens and I want to have birds out there that she can pick up and snuggle or carry around. She's four.
Lol!
I would give them a heat lamp just to be safe. We have a batch of meat birds in our shed right now that are getting big and are roasty toasty to the touch, but I still give them a lamp anyway, as it tends to get cool here at night.

Rural Pearls!!!! Did you see that Shawn (TheBirdGuy) has turkey eggs? :D I used to have some of his Spanish's. Very nice birds.

I still have some speckled Sussex available! The gentlest of the gentle! :)
