Utah!

Everyone! Thanks for your concern and ideas! I would have responded but my phone died (#powerprobz). The power was off from 6:30 til 11:45. I hope they still make it. I was so excited to have my first 100% hatch rate. But lo, the hatching Gods were not on my side. (Probably cause they want me to keep trying for it!!!)

I have a pip....

At least I know 1 of the 32 made it.... And its a nosy little bugger.... I can hear it all the way upstairs...

Yaaaaaaayyyyeeee!!!!!! Well done! Just a recommendation I use a humidifier in the room I'm incubating in. I have a Brinsea Octagon Eco and the water wells are sort of deep trenches along the bottom. I use sterile cotton (like a square piece of fabric) and feed it down into the trench and then lay it flat on the bottom, so it's like a cotton wick into the water well. I then use a sponge. I cut it into 4 to five pieces and I put two in the incubator after soaking, dripping wet, in water. My humidity stays around 75% and when a chick hatches it bumps up to 80%. If I need to open the incubator I can because I've had the humidifier going so the it won't shrink wrap any chicks. I've opened my incubator a load of times during lockdown and never had an issue with shrink wrapping, or the humidity dropping below 60%. I also try not to open the incubator before the chicks start hatching. It's significantly more difficult to get the humidity up quickly if there are no chicks in the incubator. Good luck and good job!

Good news and bad news! I just got out of work and did one last candle before lock down.
The good news: I think they all have a chance of hatching, and I already have an internal pip!
The bad news: I had to tell my wife that they all have a chance of hatching, and I already have an internal pip!

Hahaha that's too funny. Congrats. If you still have the sussex this coming up weekend I should be able to get up there. I still haven't heard any chirps under my broody mama. I am just hoping it's not going to be too cold for them. They should be fine though with mama though right?

thanks for the tips. i will look at them again in the morning as they all are sleeping and i dont want to wake them up. they are so cute. its funny even as chicks how they get excited to see you

I love it when they love you :) I seem to put off some kind of Godzilla vibe, because my ducklings are still scared of me. Hmm.... :/

This is a really good idea. I may have to try this.

I should have a few still! Come on up! I have a hen with chicks right now. I turned the lamp on and lowered it about 2 or 3 ft from the floor, but she wasn't even using it when I checked on her tonight.
