Utah!

I think I'm mostly upset that she let me drive an hour down there and an hour back (using up 1/4 of a tank of gas because my car sucks) to get a chick that I can't keep.
She didn't give me any pictures so I didn't know going in what the chick looked like. That's what I get for trusting people. My lack of faith in humanity has been restored.

EDIT: Any suggestions on a replacement chick? Now I'm short a standard size bird. I was thinking Delaware or Sussex (if I can find any now).
I have chicks 2,4, 6 ,+ weeks old and some hatching this weekend also........ Samon faveralls, americona, olive eggers, Swedish flower, and mixes .I would be glad to trade a couple of girls for a couple of your boys just for the heck of it. if you want to just let me know Im in taylorsville(slc)

I went to Leland Milling Company web page and looked at their Poultry/ meat bird feed.
http://www.lelandmill.com/chickens-meat-birds/
It looks like it is all Corn and Soy protein with some mystery vitamin & mineral package, does that sound right? It sounds pretty weird after reading the alphabet soup in Purina flock raiser. Do you supplement their diet with other stuff?
Do I have to bring my own containers to put the feed in? How do they weigh that? Do they have a pre-bagged option? Their web page is unclear to me. I have never in my life been to a mill. This sounds crazy strange to me.
I have to buy feed this week and was thinking about checking this place out. It does not look like they have a "Duck" food exactly but their grower stuff might work for now. IDK! New stuff is so confusing.

You do not have to bring your own container, as they do sell it by the bag. HOWEVER... it is the cheapest option, and my favorite way of doing it. They take the containers on a forklift with a pallet, weigh it empty, and then go fill it, and then they drive back on the scale and weigh it again.

They are also SUPER friendly! I love that place :D

speaking of the mill... I really should go fill up another container lol!

you could confront her, and say that she lied to you, and give her the option of giving your money back.... if she honestly didn't know... she would probably feel bad, and take it back, and give you the money back... if she knew, she would probably deny giving the money back, and won't take the chick back.

Really? That would really help me out. I'll pm you.

I'm not really the confrontational type. Anyway she didn't really seem that apologetic when I told her it was a boy and explained how to visually distinguish it was a boy. No "I'm sorry" or "I didn't know" just the response and this is an exact quote "Hm. That's interesting."
I'll just see if crazy Sandy wants it. I'd rather not waste anymore time and energy with someone who either explicitly lies to sell chicks or is too lazy/busy/ignorant to learn about the animals she tends and breeds.

We use a garbage can. Remember the photo I posted? Put it in the back of the truck..or our suv..and then you go onto a big platform that weighs your truck before, and after the feed is put into the container. You go to a spot where they have a big thing that goes over your can, fills it right up. My birds do free range in my back yard. I always have given them what ever is in season too when it comes to fruit or veggies. Leftovers of healthy stuff is great for them. I think the feed is fine. They told me that it has 18% of protein in it when I asked. That's about where you want it. Some like more. I do give them BOSS, and I have a bag of calf manna that I give a hand full of about once a week..or every other. When I think of it. I personally love the lay feed. My chickens do too. :)

That first can up front has the layer feed in it. The larger one has scratch, the next one
has pellets that I decided to buy because it was on sale. They don't care for that. A lot
of people like the pellets, they think they see less waste. That last one has some baby
med. feed in it. Bought a big bag. Wish I hadn't. I don't leave them on it for long at all.

This is the layer feed. Almost gone here. I fill this up for around 20 dollars. 100 lbs.

My blue robin egg is starting to zip..well, it's a lot bigger pip anyway. Will watch closely. :) Better be a girl. I must go tell it that right now. :)

I totally understand. And that is a shame :( I hate how people take advantage of other folks who may not know as much.... with that kind of response, you can bet she knew...

Hopefully someone is able to help you place him. Good luck!

Sidewing, no "real" guesses yet...another week or so and I bet we can tell if you re-post. They've got some pretty good combs started, but Marans can do that and be female...the one next to the boy on the left looks most likely to be a boy IMO but I am only ever 50 percent right lol

I was wondering the same thing with the chick second to the left. Different color in the comb too.

Good question on the feed price. Yes, you have to take your own container to get the great price.

I don't use anything else but free choice calcium oyster shell. The two folks I know what get good egg production say the same.

Hey bitsy...what day did you help your Leghorn egg out?   I have two pips now.  Blue eggs.

I helped my leghorn out on hatch day (day 21) but it was 9 at night... and it had pipped sometime early morning... it was trying to break out the same empty spot for over 3 hours.... and it was getting exhausted.

congrats on the pips! I really wish one of my light blues would have been fertile....such a beautiful colored egg! I am egg cited for you!
