Dang it. Left to go to my doc appointment, and left my son and DH home, sure enough the dog got out back and ate/killed/murdered in cold blood one of my chickens, one of my best black marans hens. I would put a naughty word here for what I have been calling him but I'll refrain. Grrrrr. He will be sitting in the bathroom a good long while!

That dog has just gone down the line, best, then next best, then next best, then my only grow out roo I had from Tornado my old roo that is gone..., now the best hen that is left again! Haha. turd!

What a bad dog. I know a few dogs in my house that would go after our chickens (they already want to put our baby chicks in their mouths).
We'll hopefully start muzzle training one so that we might be able to socialize him with chickens without fear of him accidentally killing one. Though we'll still have to be careful with those clobbering paws of his.

What a bad dog. I know a few dogs in my house that would go after our chickens (they already want to put our baby chicks in their mouths).
We'll hopefully start muzzle training one so that we might be able to socialize him with chickens without fear of him accidentally killing one. Though we'll still have to be careful with those clobbering paws of his.

Mine does ok until they start flapping or squawking, then he just goes into predator mode and grabs them in his mouth and shakes them, completely zoned out, does not hear or see us yelling at him until it is over. Then he knows he is in BIG trouble and hides. He gets a couple each year, it Is really frustrating, my boys just forget and let him out when I am not home. Despite the giant note on the back door :/

No worries on Eggs Cynthia just holler when you want some. I have these sold, collecting more, I am up to 9 again, they are actually laying decent right now.

Yeah, not a lot you can do about prey drive. The dog we'll be working with will hopefully be trainable enough that he'll keep it reeled in. He's a Sheltie so fingers crossed.
