Hello!

I know this is a little off topic, but I am a stay at home mom in salt lake. I stay home with my 18 month old daughter and my chicken babies. I'm in search of ways to earn extra money for my family. Wondering if any of you are aware of any work from home type jobs so I can continue to stay home and take care of my family. Thanks!

Be really careful. Most of the "work at home" jobs are total scams. I used to work for O'Currance and they offered telecommuting. http://www.istayhome.com/ I think that Jet Blue also allows reservationists to work from home.

I am really, really sad. I moved my chickens to the new house because we'd sold the old house. I left most of my flock with the new owners, but brought a total of 10 with us. 4 were OE chicks I'd hatched for a school, a barred rock, a silkie, my bantam frizzle, a hen that was a stealth hatch from last fall, and then two FBCM that I'd hatched and were just about point of lay. Yesterday, I discovered the barred rock had been eaten by a critter (raccoon?). I was surprised because I'm in suburbia now, with my back yard enclosed with a 6' fence with neighbors with dogs on most sides. Last night I checked on the remaining hens, and thought about sealing them inside the hen house, but didn't (to my regret). About 4:45 this morning, I heard a weird noise and ran outside. Found the carcasses to both FBCM, two of the chicks and the frizzle. The silkie was out on the ground. I'm not sure if she's sleepy, shell shocked or injured yet. Saw a raccoon and scared it off.

As of right now, I have two perfectly healthy hens, one chick (that may be a cockerel) and the acting-strangly silkie.

Thank you for that job information. I will look into it. I've heard and seen that there are a lot of scams out there, so that's partially why I figured I would ask this nice community of people on byc :). I'm very sorry to hear about your chickens. That's so sad.

Sorry to hear about the losses. Danged racoons! If you are in suburbia you might be able to call animal control and they will lend you a trap for free and take it off your hands after you catch it. My friend called them and it worked out great. They even take skunks and lend skunk traps sometimes.
 
I actually have a humane trap. It still smells a bit skunky from my last adventures, but I think I'm going to set it out tonight.

I will be locking my remaining hens in their coop for the time being.
