I'm up in North Ogden, but I've got 38 baby chicks right now that are about 5 weeks old... I'm going to be placing some of them when they get older, because I don't need anywhere NEAR that many chickens!!

I've got EE pullets, and a few RIR roosters that are destined to end up in my stockpot in another few months

that I'd be willing to let go. I also have 2 Polish Crested (they were my "mystery exotic chicks" from MM), but I'm going to keep them!

Daysiechicken --Thank you for letting us know. That is very good info. I think lice etc. would put me over the top.

I have also talked to her on the phone and had thought about her as a possibility. But she said she trims beaks and I don't know how I feel about that yet, I'm too new to the chicken thing.

Stands with a Fiddle --I'm not in town so I can't meet up. But it would be nice to have some sort of local support group/ class or something. Maybe Wasatch Community Gardens would put something together? Might be worth looking into. I would be happy to ask if people are interested.

New Egg -- I might want a EE pullet. Let us know if and when you are ready to sell them.

I'm also thinking about maybe a Australorp, or (if it's possible to find just one) a Faverolles.

Right now my girls are laying about 8 eggs a week but I'd like a dozen or more. And I think my coop could comfortably fit one more. I am excited to check out the state fair and see what they have.

On another note, I read the posts about Sunnybrooke Farms. I'm SOOO glad we didn't get our ladies from her. I knew that bio-security wasn't her strength, but lice AND a respiratory disease. What a nightmare!

Daysiechicks - what vet did you go too?

I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback about Bird and Exotic All Pet Hospital in Sandy. They said they get a couple of chickens a week. Someone on here said that Parish Creek in Centerville was another good vet.

As far as Exotic Vets go, I've had experience with Dr. Laurel Harris at Foothill Animal Clinic. I've not taken chickens to her, but I would definitely try her based on past experiences I've had with her and with that clinic.

Update on the screechy hen, btw -- she supposedly had a better day today, so maybe she is settling down.

Well, I did get my 4 chicks at Sunnybrooke...they were 2 days old. I have never had any problems with them. They are now over 7 mos and have been laying 4 eggs a day since 17 weeks. I have learned everything here from BYC and that is why mine have done so well. I know of a couple of others that have bought chicks there and had no problems.

Hi.. Regarding the vet, I went to Wasatch Exotic Pet Care .. 1892 E. Fort Union Boulevard. Laurel Harris is the vet there and is she AWESOME! I highly recommend her!

It sounds like Stands with a Fiddle has heard good things about her. I didn't know she used to be at Foothill Animal clinic
