Where did you get the chicken nipples? I have tried rabbit bottles and they are not working well.

Got them at homesteadersupply.com. They are super fast and reliable. I think I got mine it 3-4 days.

Hi, my name is Julie and I'm a Chicken Addict.

A couple days ago when I picked up chick feed they still had the chicks from 3+ wks ago when I bought 3 buff orps. It was getting crowded in there so I suckered and got 4 golden laced w's for $1/ea. That gave the 12-14 left a little more room. I came home and confessed to the husband and he actually told me to go get the rest.

He liked the idea that they were only $1 and didn't need to come in the house. So I went back and there were more than I thought (honestly!), 24 or 25, but what a bargain for nice pullets! It's a great feedstore but there wasn't as much chick traffic this year and they usually sell out by now. I felt bad because the little girls were rubbing their head on the top (it's one of those metal not very high nice brooders). They had started picking feathers since they'd been in there 4 wks (no wounds or blood drawn tho, just not many tail feathers).

So my big chick brooder in the garage will be getting crowded in a few wks but hopefully the weather will shape up and they can go to the outside temp coop and run.

They were SO SO happy. They ran around and flapped their wings. My existing chicks were very accomodating to my surprise. Owner gave me the name of someone that wanted them but not for a few more wks, so if I find I'm overwhelmed it'll be easy to sell some. Come late summer I'll never want for eggs again (hopefully!).

Help! Need suggestions!


We just got into the whole chicken thing maybe 6 weeks ago--I had read the city code and understood it to mean we could have chickens. Accordingly, we got a few chickens then we decided to incubate some eggs (my kids homeschool). THEN we find out I misunderstood the city code and we are in the wrong zoning area--can't have chickens.

So I asked around at work and found someone who would let us rent a little area of hers (she has a very large lot in syracuse). However, now she is running into probs with finances and we currently have no where to keep chickens. We have plenty of people who will TAKE the chickens, but we were really hoping to keep a dozen or so (yes, I suffer from chicken math).

So, does anyone know where we can rent or buy a bit of land for a reasonable price and keep chickens on it? (preferably with a rooster). I live in Bountiful and can travel up to about 45 minutes in either direction to take care of the chickens (yes, we are terribly fond of them!). My 11 year old son is having a great deal of trouble with the idea of giving them up--he just lost his cat a week ago to a traumatic injury (maybe a dog? car? don't know, but it was ugly) and his leopard gecko actually had to have surgery to save her life a couple of days later. Then we find out all the chickens are going to have to go. The poor kid just wells up with tears on a regular basis these days.

So if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! I have 11 acres up in Duchesne, but that is 2 hours away and I can't for the life of me figure out how to manage keeping chickens there!

How about some place local? Do feed stores keep these guys? Anyone know of anyplace within 20 miles or so of Orem that I'd have a shot of finding these? I'd love to set my hens up with this kind of watering system, but I'm having a hard time choking up the shipping cost for something I'm not sure will work. (Will year old hens learn to drink from these?)

and yeah, i'll bet if you show your birds how it works they'll be drinking from it in no time. posters on here said their chickens figured it out on their own in a couple of hours.

True about the cost of gas and time! If my birds are likely to take to it, then maybe I will just go ahead and order them. Thanks!
