I would be interested in the roo and housing a few guests for a bit. I am about 2 weeks away from finishing my breeding duplex and only have one rooster.

That's a good idea and will this wkend when I hv the time. I'd at least like to show a face shot to be fair to the little lady. She is still alive, eats and drinks. This evening I'm going to let her have a little exercise, I've restricted it. Don't know if that's good or not but I looked at it like a prolapsed anything would probably require bedrest, so that's what she got.

No signs of normal poop yet and thank heavens no egg. I hesitate to feel again if there any healing going on. She's wasnt bound up in the normal sense but with things messed up could be. She naps a lot but her tail is up, she's observant and doesn't look like an ill chicken.

Issues with my Easter eggers! I have two Easter eggers in my flock of four chickens. I purchased them from the IFA on 21st South a year and a half ago (Feb 14, 2010), where they were selling them as "Ameraucanas." One has been intermittently laying large, strangely-shaped eggs ever since she started laying. That bird has now started laying thin-shelled and shelless eggs, is laying only once or twice a week (if at all), and is sometimes laying them in the yard instead of in the nest box. Her behavior this week is off: not roosting on her usual perch, not eating (not even eating treats), sits down a lot in the yard and shuts her eyes, has really stinky poop stuck to the feathers below her vent (I clean this off, but she re-offends as soon as I put her back in the yard), etc. I was told by our vet that it's likely an oviduct issue with that bird. The remedy would be to remove the birds oviducts, which would end her egg laying days entirely.

Now I'm starting to have similar issues w/ my other Easter egger. I've found several thin-shelled and shelless eggs from her over the past couple of weeks, and she's only laying a couple times a week, if that. In fact, I haven't had a normal egg from her or the other EE for over two weeks.

To answer the inevitable questions - I feed my hens layer pellets w/ oyster shell mixed in. They roam the yard during the day, so they get bugs, food that drops from the bird feeders, and miscellaneous treats from our house. I upped the calcium-rich treats, but saw no improvement.

So, my question: Do any of you happen to have EE/Ameraucanas that you purchased from the IFA on 2100 South last winter? Are they having any egg issues this year? I'm starting to think it's a genetic issue and I got some bum hens.

One more thing to mention, my other laying hen is a Wellsummer. That bird stopped laying a couple weeks ago, too, but I think that is more weather related and she might be getting ready to molt. I'm yet to see a thin-shelled or shelless egg from her, so I'm not as worried about her health, but it bears mentioning since her egg laying ended at about the same time as the others'. I purchased her at the same time and place as the EEs.

She's had some good days and bad days. I could tell life in the big tank was hard on her so she spends her days in a dog cage on our deck. She loves grass and corn and uses the tree branch perches we put in. I've worried about the light and egg production but after so many days in the tank it looked like I was loosing her so took the risk. She certainly perked up once outside and refuses to eat or drink in the tank.

I've given her several baths in hopes of helping "out" any potential eggs, and to wash her woo-hoo. It doesn't stay in but is decreasing in size and doesn't bleed anymore. If chickens have rectums, I do believe that is what is out since she does not have normal poops. They take awhile to come out and is mostly just long drips. Her vent is now visible and at least the top portion appears fine. I've been able to soak off some of the scabbing. Pathetic, but if you remember "Betsy"?...we call this on Buttsie.

I guess we have another house chicken until she looks normal 'there' and hopefully producing eggs. Not because I want the eggs, just want her to be normal and I want to be around if she starts having issues. Still on antibotics and and electrolytes. I'm really praying she will heal and after a couple weeks of being off "stuff" and laying eggs, then I hope she can rejoin the coop. She's sweet but not people oriented like Betsy was.

I feel bad as I haven't had the time to post to the illness board or post a pic of her face. I really appreciate all your help and asking about her!

p.s. Had my daughter's horse meet a porcupine last night... $220. Guess it's our month for unusual animal problems!
