If I do buy this little couple -- anyone on this board interested in buying future babies (or fertile eggs)? I think I'll make a predator/chick proof new coop just for the newlyweds.

my bantam's a while ago...
aww, that's one of the little black EE's ... that we had to put down. Elk, these are the two bantams, they are older now, and really getting pretty. As you can see, they are side by side. Too cute. The boy has real feathered feet, the girls aren't as feathered.

I would love some of both the lavender's and the SPPR, but first things first - must make a place for any newcomers! And then see if Sphinx will still have any GLW she'd be willing to part with, if they aren't all bought up first

So um, we got an unexpected addition to our flock last week. I picked up a free rooster with the intentions of having me some fresh chicken dinner..........and then got foiled. Just by looking him over, I'm pretty sure he is a bantam Sultan. Cute little guy, kind of funky looking and pretty beat up right now, whether from the cold or the larger hens he was with, I have no idea. My boyfriend has taken quite a liking to him, so "Little Jerry" is now in quarantine until we can get him cleaned up and doing better. And then we'll be looking for a couple of flashy little bantam girls for him to hang out with. How did I let myself get talked into this?

Red, I will give you the first right of refusal on my GLW. I'm definitely keeping Godzilla (unless she turns out to be a rooster, which would REALLY shock me at this point). I want to have one GLW that looks like a GLW, and otherwise, I'm planning to sell the rest.

We need to see a pic of Jerry!

Where's our Lisa? Lisa, are you guys ok out there with this winter stuff going on? We had a storm warning until 9 this morning. It wasn't that bad. We don't have that much snow after all. And, a plus, no hard wind. It is supposed to be up around the 40's here for the rest of the week in the day of course, then only down in the 20's at night. Not too bad.

Yes, I'm worried about Lisa as well.

We had quite a bit of snow up here, and it's cold cold today, so it's very icy out on the roads.

I just candled my BLRW, and I have one that never started development, and another that looks like it died yesterday (I saw it wiggling around yesterday, so that's kind of sad). Bummer. Still have 5 wigglers though.

Well, here's Jerry:


I saw some other bantams today, and I need to tell you........I'm not so sure he's a bantam any more. He might just be small, because he's smaller than my white leghorn hen. You can see from his feet that he's a little ragged right now. I'm wondering about putting some salve on his legs and wrapping them to help with the cold.

Lisa, what's the scoop with your pullet? I'm hoping you're okay.

Edited to say, upon further thought, I think I shall opt to NOT get bantam hens for him. I would rather no one got hurt in the event he is too heavy for them. I can always get regular sized Cochins for now

Or Silkies. Yay.

Hi guys I have been painting my sons room over the last few days....lots of blue and red stripes to cover up, it has been a project. My little bantam has slightly improved...she is pooping some, not a lot, but she seems slightly improved with no egg still i do not know what her deal is. We have just kept her in the garage, I quit soaking her, and she starting doing a little better. So far she is hanging in there whatever is ailing her...

Cynthia--Weather is ok, however we are getting some puddles under the house, and i put TONS of christmas decorations back down there so we do not want anymore rain for a bit We have frozen over and have snow on the ground, the freezing helped to slow the moisture down a bit , We live on the West side and it is like a marsh, the ground water is quite high so if we get a lot at once it sometimes shows up in the crawl space and makes a mud hole. Ew!

Sphinx-I am so sorry to hear hulksmash did not make it. Sounds like it was inevitable and you did right by her. Hope you are not too sad and your others do great! Godzilla will be my new favorite

Well, painting. Always fun to see the outcome. What color are you using to cover up red and blue stripes? Glad you are doing ok.

Red, that guy looks like a Polish/Silkie mix. Yep, get him a Silkie, or Polish, or both. )

Is Jerry a really mature silkie? Without another chicken to compare to he does look bigger than my silkie roo. Being sweet makes sense for a silkie or cochin.

I thought a cross between silkie or cochin, and polish? as that's quite a head of hair on that dude!

What kind of crow does he have?


I have two banty EE roos that free-ranged all summer. I locked them in a dog crate (in the coop) come the freezing temps. They were SO miserable and we had such mild weather so I put them out, they love life again and then this storm hits. So far they have weather'd it well (they sleep in the rafters obove my coop's "sun room"). One is kind of scared getting down, once he jumped into the flight netting and I helped him across. I don't dare put a ramp or anything to help access out besides flight or that'll give the coons a WAY easy quiet way up to them.

If Jerry is safe and protected at night I think he should be just fine. My chickens will walk on snow if and only IF they decide they want to. Guess they know what's best.
