Utah!

Lisa, I was beginning to wonder if you had gone to Idaho.  :)  Don't you have family there?
Well, painting.  Always fun to see the outcome.  What color are you using to cover up red and blue stripes?  Glad you are doing ok.

Red, that guy looks like a Polish/Silkie mix.  Yep, get him a Silkie, or Polish, or both.  :))

I do have all my family in Idaho, I am from Id Falls about twenty five yrs ago :) But this weekend it was time to follow up on my promise to my littlest one to paint his room---Last year in April for his birthday we bought new bedding and curtains and I promised to paint, and life got me busy (and new chickens lol) so I am just getting around to it. We went with a caramel-goldish color, it looks good, all his stuff in his room is black or white, it worked out nice. 6 coats of primer to cover the red and blue, and lots of sanding to cover the lines....and we put up crown moulding and painted the trim and ceiling white, so lots of taping. (Tired face, they do not have a tired face smiley here :p)

My bantam is hanging in there. I feel like in nature she is one that just would have been selected to not make it, so I feel like I am prolonging her fate.....I may try to see if anyone wants her free on ksl, if not, then let the DH take care of her....I do not think I am going to put her back in my little flock, the dynamics seem a lot better without her. Because she is so feeble, it seems to get the feather picking going and I do not have a seperate pen for her. Sad, but I am trying to look at it as part of maintaining a healthy flock. :(

Cynthia--I just saw your post about your neck brace---You are doing better, that is so good to hear! I hope it is going well...awful to have problems like that...I broke my back when I was young and have fared pretty well without any invasive procedures, but every morning when I wake up, wow! I remember! I hope it is feeling much much better, and congrats on the happy news :)

Wow! That is one lucky son! How old is he? I love the color, and that molding is gorgeous! I love that stuff. Really makes a room doesn't it?

I feel for you and your little one. Just like Shinx, you two have worked so hard on your little ones. I know there are people that will take them in..we have someone here on our thread, but not sure who close you are. You live so far away from us!!

Well, I have a pip in my barn yard mixes that I got to share with the neighbor lady. I got a call from her early this morning saying she could hear a chick. I went in to look at my eggs, and I also had a pip, and while I was putting more water in the bator, I heard a little peep peep.

I had a lady come down from up north a ways and take all of my Pencils except for the two that I kept to watch. She and I have gotten to know each other pretty good. She will keep them for a while before she sells them, then, if by chance I don't get a pullet out of the two, she will bring one down for me. She should get a girl out of those 9!

I thought I would try this..ha..fun colors! Let's see if I can get some others to work. Oh man, too much time on my hands..nope, lol..need to get out to my girls! Later!!!!!!! :))

I'm glad to hear that you think he's a mix. I kept looking at him and thinking that he didn't quite look right for a Sultan, but that was my best guess because of the coloring and all. He does have five toes, though, so I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he has Silkie in him.

He's a year old, or so the people we got him from said. He's a little larger than half the size of my EE roo, Beau. His crow is definitely higher-pitched than Beau's. It kind of reminds me of a game rooster's crow, but it's very clear, no warbling.

Is Jerry a really mature silkie? Without another chicken to compare to he does look bigger than my silkie roo. Being sweet makes sense for a silkie or cochin.

I thought a cross between silkie or cochin, and polish? as that's quite a head of hair on that dude!

What kind of crow does he have?

I have two banty EE roos that free-ranged all summer. I locked them in a dog crate (in the coop) come the freezing temps. They were SO miserable and we had such mild weather so I put them out, they love life again and then this storm hits. So far they have weather'd it well (they sleep in the rafters obove my coop's "sun room"). One is kind of scared getting down, once he jumped into the flight netting and I helped him across. I don't dare put a ramp or anything to help access out besides flight or that'll give the coons a WAY easy quiet way up to them.

If Jerry is safe and protected at night I think he should be just fine. My chickens will walk on snow if and only IF they decide they want to. Guess they know what's best.

I miss chick cam so bad...still waiting on IFA to get theirs in. Cant get in any sooner . and I want ckicks. the 25 min that some hatchries want this time of year are carzy when I can only have 5 county says. I just cant wait. Depending on where you live we have a few Utah members with chicks right now :) And they come from good stock and good caretakers, you could check into getting some right away. I got some from Cynthia12 and they are awesome! I am going crazy because I want more and do not have room yet. There are chicks all over this thread it seems like :)

He is 11. Time to get rid of the Spiderman room he says :p Thanks for the compliments, I do like the way it turned out. But it makes me sad that the superhero lovin' little boy is growing up

I have chicks hatching at this moment! I will have 25 pullets being mailed to me by Feb. 1st. I order what I am interested in keeping and watching, then I sell the rest..for cheap! I have barn yard mix hatching now, buff or rir roo, to red sex link hens..that would of course be straight run. But the pullets that are coming, are, 4, Auracanas..not Ameraucanas or EE, they have tufts, and some have bunt bums..then I have more New Hamphsires coming, 4 of those, then, 3 rose comb brown leghorn,,love the browns, they are pretty, and they lay awsome! I have a brown, just not the rose comb. Then I have coming, 5 Silver Laced Wyondottes, 5 speckeled sussex, 4 white orpingtons, and a surprise chick! lol..wonder what that will be.
They should be calling me at the end of the month..next week, to let me know when they ship. They will be here pretty sure the first part of Feb..that isn't far away, they actually said on the 1st. We;ll see, but won't be long. This is a mix of blue eggs, brown eggs, and white egg laying girls.
Now, according to what you want, and where you live, you could get some good deals here. I also have some Australorp eggs in that are due to hatch in a couple of weeks. And, more blue egg laying eggs. And...lol..I have some Blue Laced Red Wyondottes that I just put in. Of course the eggs that I am hatching are straight run. Let me know. :)

I know what you mean..I'm feeling the empty next syndrome. Our son is 18 as I told you when we saw you, and will be leaving for is mission next year. I can't believe it, even though we had him later in our years..it seems like the years just flew by. But, he is working, so that helps, he isn't around much because of that and other things he does with friends. Kind of a braking in thing. lol..
11 year old. Boy, they grow up faster and sooner these days. Back in the 70's, if one of my boys had a spider man room at 11, he would still want it.
Keep us updated with your little girl. Too bad you are so far away, if you could only see my lavender bantams now, beautiful! Elk was thinking maybe, but not sure. I need to get pics up of them when the snow melts down more. Could be tomorrow. They are so cute together, they keep close to each other. Will make pretty babies someday!

Ok Cynthia---I cannot take it anymore haha! I am jumping in here.......I talked to DH and I think we are able to do this, with a few weeks in the garage cage, I am going to see if I can get a couple of your chicks. IF you have an extra Araucana for sale that you think will be female, I would like one. If you have an Ameraucana or other EE blue egg layer, I would like one or two..... AND I would like a Black Australorp (or two if one of the others does not work out.) All hens if you have any guesses, (I like your intuition because these other two are pretty sure female and that is what you thought when they were little) if we cannot tell then I will take my chances. So three to four chicks total. I could pick up any others if someone on here wants some and lives up here by me or on the way---Sphinx or anybody else in between :) Will you put me on your list and see if I can get those? I would be glad to pay extra for you to keep the first ones until all are hatched that I want then I can make one trip to pick them up. Thanks!!
