I know what you mean..I'm feeling the empty next syndrome. Our son is 18 as I told you when we saw you, and will be leaving for is mission next year. I can't believe it, even though we had him later in our years..it seems like the years just flew by. But, he is working, so that helps, he isn't around much because of that and other things he does with friends. Kind of a braking in thing. lol..
11 year old. Boy, they grow up faster and sooner these days. Back in the 70's, if one of my boys had a spider man room at 11, he would still want it.
Keep us updated with your little girl. Too bad you are so far away, if you could only see my lavender bantams now, beautiful! Elk was thinking maybe, but not sure. I need to get pics up of them when the snow melts down more. Could be tomorrow. They are so cute together, they keep close to each other. Will make pretty babies someday!

Cynthia, are you talking about putting up pics of the lav pair? If so, they are up about 8 or so posts. My daughter says YES YES YES, I just need to run it by my husband one more time.

Or.... are you talking about lav peeps? Are they hatching!!! OH, I'm SO excited if so!

I was thinking about coming down Saturday but are they going to be "too old" then? LOL I like brand new chicky-breath babies (but know I hv to wait for full hatch, etc).

LOL..ok Lisa! I thought after I wrote that last post, that I would go ahead and go out and take pics of my lavender bantams...it is warm out there! The snow is melting away..but, they are in the shady part of the yard..but you can still see the color pretty good up against the snow. I put them back in the coop after, they didn't like the feel of the snow. Cute.. I have 4 pics. coming..
You can see the tail feathers and the neck feathers are looking rooish, and also the neck feathers are more pointy on the right one.
I stepped over and took this pic from the other side..this would be the male on the left..you can even see the difference in the comb size.

Those are pretty! Would be so fun to have both and breed them. I do have animal rights and have thought about breeding....but I do not think my neighbors would appreciate the crowing part so for now I am sticking to hens....if I end up with boys they will have to go the KSL route I am kind of liking the large fowl also, seems like the two bantams I have had so far have a lot of maintenance....

Elk, no my baby lavenders aren't hatching yet..still have about a week and half to go there. These pictures that I just posted, are the lavender bantams I was telling you about..the other post earlier are when they were younger, just wanted you to see the color of them. They are sweet hearts..

So the blue egg layers that I am after....want to be sure so I have first dibbs lol......are they lav ameraucanas only or are there other kinds?

You sure have had your fair share of that with the bantams for sure..maintenance, or broody..lol.. Is your girl broody now..still?

My mottled girl has not ever gone broody..did I just type that outloud? ) I like the cochin bantams a lot. My Baily is one tough cookie, the mottled girl. and cute to boot. My DH gets a big kick out of her. She would make an excellent show gal, if I were in to that..her body type, the mottling could be a bit more, but she is evened out pretty good from what I have seen, nice feathered feet. Just plain cute. I'm not trying to sell you on bantams, just bragging.

Maybe she isn't as beautiful as she should be for a show, and I just love her. lol..

They are so darn cute Cnthia! I want them but need to find (actually it's the husband needing to know) -- that should I buy this little couple, is there a market for their chicks or hatching eggs? He's worried I'll maybe sell the first couple batches and then just end up with expensive banties in their own private taj-ma-coop.

I know nothing about hatching/selling/genetics (but of course know & love chickens). Do you know if they are brother/sister (and if so, does that matter?). And I'm guessing the odds are more likely they will throw lavender babies but do you know the color of the parents? I'm lost when it comes to blue + black = or + that, etc etc...I'm guessing I'll get chickies of other colors, just curious which.... And being N-PIP or whatever is something I'm supposed to have.

Also, can a pullet out of her be bred back to dad? In horses they call that inline breeding and is good if there are only certain awesome genetics (or color) involved.

Is the little guy crowing yet and are they human friendly? Probably not Betsy friendly but enough to not run from you?

I have some pure lavenders in now, but Elk has been wanting some since my last bad hatch. I had to toss one the other day, so I now have 9 viable babies. You just never know until the hatch is done. I want to keep one and then the rest can go. I also have more pure Ameraucanas in that didn't start out well, only have 3 viable, but the gal sent me more out today because of that..for free..they are going to be, pure Ameruacana, blue, black, and splash. Hope these eggs she sending this time do better. I have one girl that is older right now that is an easter egger, but she came from more a green/blue egg, and I know you want blue, like everyone else! lol...Anyway, like I said, all of the colored eggs that I have in now, and that are coming, are going to be pure Ameruacana..and the Araucana chicks will lay blue for sure..and if i just ready you right, you want a couple of those? They lay real blue eggs, more blue than the Ameraucanas so I hear..

Your Baily is dang cute I can see why ya love her so much. Yes mine is still broody. Crazy broody. Screaming at all who come near...sitting vehemently on every egg that gets laid, it is so funny. I do not have to worry about eggs freezing because she keeps them all nice and warm for me haha. I have 4 nests, of course they all like to lay in #1, and that is where she like to sit, where the action is, so they lay right there next to her, on top of her, wherever they can squeeze in. I keep moving her to another vacant one, but she goes right back. I quit dipping her and all that nonsense, once she gets going, I cannot disrupt her, I give in. Plus it is just cold and I do not have time to keep getting her wet and dry her before sending her back out. So she usually goes about 3-4 weeks broody, 2 weeks not, so she should be done soon lol. The others will be glad when she gets out of their way. I really want to put fertile eggs under her someday, I bet she would be the best mom I do love her, and she provides a lot of entertainment value. But one of her is enough lol

No crowing yet..yes they are related..I hatched them. Yes, they can breed together, and yes, it is good to get a second generation going from siblings. Yes, this color is very much in demand..oh man, I'm sounding like a sells person here...and yes, they are able to throw blacks, because when I got them, the guy I got the eggs from said the eggs were splits..I just lucked out and got lots of lavenders. See my Avatar..those are the babies, and maybe the one I am holding is one of these. I didn't get one black..can you believe that Lisa?
