Utah!

so most my girls are done moulting now and they are laying eggs again :celebrate i will still have a few molting for a while because they were nice and started their molt when the others were mostly done with theirs. it feels good to get more eggs :)

Yay!!! :weee I have not had any do the big molt. Not looking forward to that!

Cynthia---Yes that big one is cute as a button. Both are very cute, and different, easy to tell them apart. I am still in the no roo zone tho....as fun as it would be to breed and have the cute babies, the crowing would be a deal breaker :( My neighbors are my friends, I think they would not be for long if we had a roo out there going off at 6 a.m. or earlier lol!

Cynthia, here's a still shot of the most pipped egg.

As you can see, it's definitely more towards the narrow end. It's definitely making progress though, and Godzilla hatched the same way without any issues.

A third one pipped, but it's on the underside, practically touching the ground.

Oh my goodness, that is at the pointy end, it's just that it didn't look so pointy on the cam. It is working it's way out though..

More than just a pip now, right? :)

Cynthia! I have names for the 3 big chickens I got :p

But first, Last night I went out at around 9:00pm and I couldn't find the Silver Laced, I looked and looked and I finally found her on top of the doghouse that has the straw in it. I just laughed and put her in the coop. Then she came out and went back up there and I put her straight back. She did this 5 times until I got fed up and locked the coop then she started squawking loudly and I decided to bring her inside for a while then take her out. After 30 minutes inside watching TV and eating bread and popcorn, I let her outside and she went straight to the coop. She's so cute :) I decided to name her Girtrude.....LOL It fits her well don't you think?

The other teenager chickens, are also so cute, They were outside for the rest of the day yesterday scratching and taking dustbaths, and I brought them inside to sleep with my 3 week olds downstairs. This morning I went downstairs to find the barred EE on top of the washing machine....It was really cute and the NH was screaming because she didn't know where her mommy was. Then I took them ALL outside in the big rabbit cage and they spent the day out there. The big ones didn't mind. They kept wanting to get out and when I let them, they went straight toward the hole with loose dirt in it to take a bath :) I named the barred EE, Athena, and the NH, Polly :) The White Orpington's name is Penny and the Mystery Chick is named Gloria :D

so am i the only one that does not heat the coop? seems like everyone heats their coop?

You know, I am thinking I may not next winter, I don't know....I keep a heat lamp in the coop, but they really do not seem to care either way. I leave the windows open so it is cold in there still, if I shut them it is about 10 degrees warmer at night than it is outside because I still leave the pop door open. I hate to leave the 250 W on all the time though. I may just leave it out there for super cold nights and use it once in awhile. Right now I have been leaving it out mostly due to the black EE's I got from Cynthia being out there, they are only 2 1/2 months old but I really think they would be ok without it. AND there is the argument about the power going out, they need to be used to that cold just in case.

I didn't heat the coop. I put a brooder lamp with a 100 w bulb in it, which probably provided some nominal heat, but not a ton. My chickens did just fine. I did have a heated waterer though.
