Utah!

Cynthia, maybe I just have bad luck, but I don't start worrying at all about my pips until it's been 24 hours. It seems like it's usually in the 18-24 hours that they hatch.

My velociraptors went out to the henhouse tonight. I shouldn't call them velociraptors; they're pretty much feathered in. I put a brooder lamp out there with a 120 v bulb, and have been checking on them frequently. They seem to do great until I come out there, and then they try to get away. I think they're loving the new amount of space they have, but I still fret that they'll get cold.

Lisa, if it makes you feel better, my older two kids know cat's cradle.

I have to admit I love the internet for ads- they're free, you get pictures, and people can remove them as soon as the item is sold. Back in the day when we posted ads, it took a couple days to get in, and if it sold quickly, you had to endure dozens of "sorry, it's sold" calls.

You jumped roped with your phone cords too..??

I remember getting the long cords, so we could walk further around the kitchen while talking.

Wendy, I remember having to tell people, sorry, that's been sold, over and over. Things have been made so much easier for us today.

Hey, 5 pips, and I am waiting until tomorrow. The first one that pipped, finally got another piece off tonight. I can hear chirping going on..not sure which one.

I don't think I'll lose any sleep tonight. Will let these babies go through the night, then see what's up in the morning. Hoping that one will hurry and hatch, and get the others going! I can see a lot of that red color that your last one had, in the first one that pipped. The hole there is big enough now to see into. I can't wait to see the colors on these. Hope they will be ok in the morning.

Also, Wendy, good guess on that doggy picture. lol... I have found a few pictures that are wrong. Oh well, a while back.

So true, life without ksl would be hard now that we have it :) Cat's cradle! That is awesome your kids know it. I am determined to teach it to all my little ones until arthritis kicks in :p (Although my granddaughter told me the other day it was a silly game and did not have the patience)

So the older batch is out! It is hard to make the move. This weather is nice right now though, good timing to try it. My Lav's were off the lamp yesterday and today but when I looked in on them a few minutes ago the littlest ones feet felt cool as it sat on my hand..so I turned back on a 60w for a day or two more. Just to be sure they are cozy...these guys just jump and jump all day trying to get over the edge of the rubbermaid they are in. I need to get me some screen like you had for the top of yours. I do not remember my last chicks jumping like these guys do, they have some strong little legs, they just seem really healthy, they hardly ever sleep.

Oh, was going to tell you. There is a lady, that came down from Salt Lake area, and bought a couple of the lavenders, and she knows I am getting some Araucana eggs next week. She wants some. Then I get a letter from her asking me, if she buys some Araucana eggs, if I would hatch them for her. I just told her that I would be afraid they wouldn't hatch. I had already told her how hard it is to hatch the true Araucanas, because of a few different things going on with them. One, they are missing that last vertebrae, thus, no tail. Guess like mother nature with us, if something is wrong, most often we lose the baby. Except me. I had a son born with Spina Bifida, with Myelomeningocele. He lived. He is now close to 30 years old. Oh yes, the chickens..not sure I am brave enough to do that for someone I don't know that well.
I have two of the lavenders left here..well three, one is mine. But, I have them sold too, to someone else up north.
The gal I bought those eggs from, is selling again, and she is using one of my pictures for her ad. Go to Auctions and see, our babies are famous. :))

Jump ropes, whips, anything else we could think of. Those long cords were so great (at the time :/) Good luck with those peepers tonight. We will be hoping you keep us dosed up with chic pics tomorrow! Those little red riding hoods are cute!

Well those pictures you took were adorable, it is no wonder she wanted to use them! Glad you were able to sell those others, they really are the cutest little chicks ever. I have been really really happy with mine :) Hope your Araucanas turn out, I remember seeing that, something about lethal genes and half don't make it or something like that....no wonder it is so hard to find those! And glad your son is/was one of the luckies too :)

Yes, I want to hear the good word too!

I'm not surprised she used your pictures, the chicks looked so beautiful in them. Heck, they sold me!

Our BLRW asked permission to use the picture I took of Cobalt, and I noticed she has a KSL ad up today with him/her as the picture. Famous chicks!

I'd be willing to hatch eggs for someone else, as long as they understood things aren't perfect, and that I'd my best, but nothing is guaranteed. In fact, that'd be nice because then I don't have to find homes for them afterwards.

I still have a 60 w bulb on my chicks. They probably don't need it, but it makes it easier to see them on camera. These guys haven't tried to jump out of the fish tank yet. Once they start doing that, I'll put them in the rubbermaid brooder.

Velociraptors were fine when I checked on them this morning. Whew!

I woke up to 4 babies hatched, and I helped the one other one that had been pipped since yesterday morning.

All three others have pipped..giving them the day to work on getting out. I'm wondering what color these babies will be. My BLRW I had years ago had a lot more red, with the blue lacing. I will go look for a picture of her..so I can end this with something good..at least I have the 4, and I am pretty sure the others will do well, if no more wry neck. Looking for a picture of the girl that got me started with the hatching, she went broody, and that was all she wrote for me! lol..
See all of the red? Wish I had a picture of her standing, that tail was so pretty with the blue fanning out. This is where she started going broody. Sweet, sweet, bird!
