Utah!

First of all Congrats Cynthia!! I hope that your next 20 are even better than the last!
- I just got a broody hen from a friend and now im looking for some fertile eggs! I would like to find some here locally along the Wasatch front. I would also like them to be pure breed but they don't have to be any special breed. Im keeping an eye on Ksl but does anyone know of another place to find some?

Hi everyone! I'm sure I'll forget someone along the way, so please forgive me!

Cynthia: Congrats on 20 years!!!!!

Chiko, if you knew she was having the babies soon, you could sell them for Easter gifts.

Blarson, you can get fertile hatching eggs in purebreeds from http://www.utahwarmblood.com/. Also, I have a lady who owes me a dozen hatching eggs. My incubator can only hold 7. I was planning on getting Polish eggs. Red had talked about possibly getting my extra 5, but if she doesn't, I'd sell them to you, say $1 each? I bought hatching eggs of BLRW off KSL for $1 each, and they are quite cute chicks.

Jwoo, congrats on the new coop!

Hattie, definitely sounds broody. I've only had one hen go broody, and I was ok with just giving her something to hatch.

I put all of my new chicks out in the coop yesterday. The older chicks were a little freaked out by the intruders.

Today, I forcibly made everyone leave the coop to go outside. I had left all the doors open, but nobody would go out there. So after an hour I caught them all and put them outside. They seem to be LOVING it now.

After thinking the larger lav ameraucana was a rooster, I'm back to wondering if maybe if it's a pullet after all. I think I have at least 3 cockerels in the BLRW.

jwoo, that's awesome! Have you guys thought about what kinds of chicks you want to get, or are you planning on just having a heyday?

Not really. We'll probably go down to IFA and do a special order, see what they have. I think I want a Barred Rock and a Cochin but those are the only ones we've decided on at this point. Open to suggestions!

Also does anyone want a drake? We have this drake that we actually got as a duckling from Hector last June. He's a super awesome Black Swedish but he's in the same run as our chickens and love is in the air! I though having to female ducks would satiate his appetite but it looks like he thinks all birds are fair game. He's not aggressive, very pretty, I just can't keep him in a separate area due to space. Free for anyone who wants him!

That's a great point, Chiko. I think that does happen. Having said that, I got my first set of chicks a couple days before easter and gave them to my kids. Of course, i'd been wanting chicks for a while, and had the coop built before I even bought the chicks.

briason84 - So happy you found a broody hen! Let me know when you give her eggs to hatch. We can do this thing together. I could use some help. :)

I was able to get some silkie eggs but won't get them until Tuesday. I have been trying to read as much as I can on how to help my little broody hen. She isn't laying on anything right now and only gets up once or twice a day to eat and drink. Then goes right back in and lays down. I'm so worried how this is all going to work out that I bought a incubator just in case.(early Mother's Day gift!)

Would love any help you could give to me as this is a new experience. I'm very excited!

Yup, an ad on KSL right now for free duckies..landlord doesn't like them. DUH?! WTHeck are people (I'm sorry but idiots) thinking?? Poor ducks. I'd take them in a heartbeat if they wouldn't be coyote bait.

and Easter is not far off. LOTS of those dyed chicks (which we know are roos) will be posted. bummer.
