Cynthia12 - I got silkies eggs today too. Maybe they came from the same breeder. Mine were from Thisledown Farms. when are you going to put them in the incubator? I'm really stressing about what to do.

I would be willing to let you borrow my brinsea mini advance for a couple days, but I live in Clinton (can't remember where you live?) and I'd have to have it back to my house by Tuesday- I'm setting eggs then.
Anyway, if you want to have a still air, sure- that would totally work. Start them out in there, and then transfer to the brinsea when it arrives. Make sure when you get your mini advance that you calibrate it to make sure the temperature is correct- mine was a half degree off til we fixed it. The how-tos are in the instructions.

No I don't want to have two incubators but if it is important I get them into an incubator sooner rather than later I guess i will send the other one back when I get it. It really has messed me up with my order of the incubator taking so long. Thank you for your offer. That really is the kindest thing but I live in St. George. I just needed better planning. I would really like the one I ordered but I have the eggs now so just trying to figure it out. One more question in the instructions from the still air incubator it says to wash the eggs. I didn't think I was suppose to do that. Do I? I know I should let the eggs set for 8 to 24 hours after being shipped but do I need to turn them in that period of time also?

So you have your still bator right? I am with Shinx, no problem setting them in the still air for now, then change them over. Like she said, make sure you have your temps set right before you put your eggs in.
I would go ahead and put them in the bator by morning..Thurs. morning. Don't wash them. I don't. Most people don't..I have heard of some, but there is a film on them that helps keep bacteria out of the shell. And yes, you will need to turn them. Put an X on one side, and a 0 on the other. I turn my eggs three times a day. Morning, three, and around 9 or 10. Doesn't have to be right on the same hr. every time, just three times a day is fine, close to the times you normally do it.
Still air..they say 101 is the perfect temp. for that. If it is at 100, that is fine, if it gets to 102, too warm. Still incubators keep the humidity better than the forced air. So having your humidity in the low to mid 40's is great instead of the 50 to 55.
Good luck, you and I will be hatching Silkies at the same time. I set mine tonight. This isn't my first time hatching, but it is my first time hatching Silkies. I already have so many people wanting some that are already in a bator, so I got more for the fun of it..plus, these second ones I got today, look really nice..more of the shorter body type, and little balls of fluff. The other pictures of the ones I already have, have longer legs, less fluff. I'm excited anyway, different colors popping out of those eggs.
Let us know if you decided to set them in the morning..)

So, I talked to the person who sold me the eggs and they are very kindly going to send me a new set in early April (first unsold set available). The eggs were packed in one of those poky foam holders with styrofoam peanuts around it and probably should have been okay, but the top of the box got tweaked somehow and everything was kind of loose inside. I guess that's what happens when someone plays football with your package. I can't imagine my regular postman had anything to do with this-- I've had eggs delivered many times along with mealworms and crickets for my son's lizards, and my mailman has always cheerfully delivered them and even stood around chatting about it at times. He also always hand delivers such packages. Yesterday's box got dumped on my front porch-- I literally glanced outside and happened to see it out there. Guess someone was too embarrassed to deliver it properly, what with the egg yolk running down the outside of the box. Sheesh.
Anyway, I'm very glad they are sending me new eggs. I really really wanted those little babies. In fact, I wanted them so much and was so disappointed yesterday, that I ordered a few direct from Greenfire. Should be here the end of next week.

Cynthia - Thank you so much. I turned on the incubator last night before bed thinking that by morning it would be heated to the temperature I needed. It was only at 80 degrees this morning. So I have turned it up and we will see how long it takes to warm up. I want to put them in today but want to make sure the temp is stable first. So it will probably be tonight. I can't decide if I should use my silkie for some of hatching.The funny thing is I watch my little silkie who is broody and I don't think she is as careful as I am having to be with these eggs. I can't imagine her even being able to hatch some eggs. She is in her box all day but not always does she have eggs underneath her. So I don't now if I should switch and put fertile underneath her and take out the unfertilized eggs. Argh! This is so difficult.
DH says its a good thing it is difficult then I won't make this a common occurrence. hahaha right.

corvidae - That is so great that you will get egg replacements! Plus the extras you ordered. Hahaha I would love to have one of those when they hatch but I know I will need to get in line behind everyone else.
