Utah!

Haha YES, I am justified! Thank you birdman ;) (I'm really not planning on twenty. Maybe just five or so between Cynthia, Lisa, and whoever else tempts me....)

Awww Lisa! Your baby is so adorable. Look at that little face. It has "Love me" written all over it. Thank goodness for good friends on the forums!

you can also look at them as food storage, lawn maintenance staff because they fertilize, eat bugs, they power rake your lawn, they mow the lawn, they eat weeds in the lawn etc. chickens also hunt vermin. chickens are very good therapist i tell you. my doctor has said i should always keep chickens because they do so much good for me, i mean whats more relaxing than watching chickens?

lisa congrats on the chicks! well done. what breeds are they?

Every single one of them (7/7) is peeping :) if i would not have killed the one yesterday they all would have made it to this stage. Pretty crazy after the temp drop...so far all of them are alive, one out, two working on it.....one is a little shrink wrapped but I put the damp cloth on and it might still make it. Still moving :)

Outstanding, Lisa! Yay for hardy little chicks! Very exciting!

You are so right on all of the above. When the weather was better, we had ants on the back patio. Well, those girls saw them swirmming around, and my husband was so excited when he saw that the chickens liked ants. LOL... I said, they eat all sorts of bugs. We've seen them fight over a worm, a mouse, and funny but, just a small piece of leaf that they thought was something to eat..I don't know, maybe they did eat it!!

So Lisa, are these baby pictures of your ones you thought you lost?? Wow!
ya.gif

Did you put the others in lock down, or are you waiting for tonight? That would work. Great job!!

Yes! I've seen mine play keep away with things like dead leaves and stink bugs. And I couldn't agree more that chickens come with so many benefits, particularly the therapy bit. When I had my two teenagers out back, I could sit out there and relax while I watched them and listened to them chatting. Even on a bad day when I had a lot of anxiety, they helped me to calm down. I sure miss them. Can't wait until some of the preteens are old enough that I can let them wander around outside.........with mommy's supervision. After all, what's the point of chicken tv if no one's there to watch the show?

Speaking of preteens, I've started trying to introduce mine to the outdoors just a little at a time. Here are two of them seeing grass for the first time:

I'm a little sad, because the gray EE does not like to be away from my mom's BSL, and she'll get very worried and cry a lot until she finds her again. I would rather not separate those two, so when it happens that I move the rest of my birds elsewhere, my EE will be staying with the BSL for company. I really was looking forward to having her around and seeing what color of eggs she lays.

And because pictures are always more fun in groups, here are a couple of better shots of Peach!

She is such a patient little sweetheart. These pics are a few days old, so she has some more feathering now on her wings. I never thought I'd want a BO, but then my boyfriend bought her for me and I fell in love. She is so easy to handle and so gentle. And I love her little face. Makes me smile every time I look in that brooder.

Sweet chickens, Red.

Lisa, I am SOOOOOO excited for you- I'm glad you had one of your toughies out, and more on their way. What kind is the one that's hatched?

I will lock down my eggs tomorrow. I haven't bothered candling all of them in a few days, but from what I've seen, all six remaining eggs are doing well.

Weather was great, so my easter egg hunt was a success.

These are the Blue Wyandottes. From the Hens I bought from slvrphoenix. They are alive still....crossing fingers.....just gotta make it out little babies! Pretty exciting I really thought they were all toast. My first hatch, glad I get to share it with everybody!

Thanks Sphinx! I am excited too. Red--- cute baby pics!

Cynthia---these are the ones that were at 67 degrees all night. Crazy huh! The ones to go in lockdown tonight (4) also were in with those, got so cold, but candled and looked alive so I am hopeful. I think they will be behind too so and there are no pips so I will hopefully get these hatched by tonight and lockdown the remaining 4 tomorrow. I lost another chick a bit ago----it was upside down, head in the wrong end. It quit breathing, i took it out and it had a big sac of fluid on its head so it had something wrong with it....it was deformed looking. Probably that cold night did not help...
So out 7 eggs total----I messed one up yesterday, then all 6 remaining were going this morning, 1 hatched, 1 quit a bit ago-----4 left to go. Crossing fingers :) Then 4 more to hatch in a few days hopefully.....all eggs that got cold....all Blue Wyandottes. The one that hatched this morning is getting really cute. Tail looks girlish, it is sticking up there...so hopeful!

Cute coloring. It has dark spots right under the eyes so it makes his eyes look big :)

Sphinx, glad your party worked out! I was thinking about you today, so glad the sun came out and everything was beautiful for your egg hunt. This is Our Holiday guys! Chicks and Eggs----we are the biggest fans :)
