Utah!

Oh, Sasha, I don't blame you at all for not going with my dicey proposition. I'd been thinking and thinking about what kind of eggs to incubate at the elementary school, but the more I think about it, the less I want to gamble with anything really great, you know? I'm leaning towards just buying some various mix eggs, and then selling what I get, and doing a fun hatch afterwards. Or, I could just count myself done after the elementary hatch....

I'm distracting myself so I don't hang out at the preschool all day by working on a quilt. I know, the dorkiness, it burns.....

Sphinx-- I will have a heap of BLRW eggs tomorrow evening when i get home from Duchesne that you could have for the school hatching. Otherwise, the eggs are just going to be eaten this time around, since I haven't got the time right now to auction them and if I incubate anymore for a while, they are going to have to shovel the chicks off us here. Not sure where you're at, but if you are close enough to pick them up, you are welcome to them!

We had 5 blacks and only one silver and she turned out to be a he. Was able to sell them all though.
Thanks for the compliments on my run guys

Will post the final project after paint. I do not paint the inside of my coop. I have been tempted to hang curtains in their window though, and hang pictures inside. I found a cute rooster picture from the DI I thought it would look cute hanging on their wall haha! I have however painted all those red posts in the run, and have never seen them picking. So far so good.
Cynthia--the little coop was your idea you just did not realize it. When you posted your "nursery hutch" I started thinking about this doghouse that I could makeover for a mini coop

Now they will just come out to play, but no more running around all day in the yard, no more getting eaten by my dog when the kids let him outside by accident! Yes our guys are good to us! I know my DH is SICK of me and my yapping about chickens, but he is such a good sport. I promised him no more add ons til next spring.... (at the latest...)
Phoenix! your grandkids are cute huh! Did you have any black hatch? I thought it was funny how some were more silver and some more black. I like the black a lot actually so it was great, I was not expecting that. Looks cool with those yolky yellow bellies. I wish they would stay just like that, the penguin babies are always so cute, I wish adult chickens had the same colors.

Another Isbar chick was dead when I got home from work this morning. When I left for work last night, they all looked great. I can't even bring myself to go in that room today--my son has been going in to check on all the chicks and feed/water them.

So now more than half the Isbar chicks have died and I still have no idea why. All the other chicks, mercifully, look great and haven't had any problems. So glad I have more than one brooder!

On the upside, eggs are hatching. 9 out of 12 BLRW's have hatched so far and 2 out of 6 cream legbars. I have 2 more BLRW's pipped and one more cream legbar. We are just a couple of hours into day 21, so I am still hoping for more of the cream legbars to hatch. Even if they don't, though, I have, I think, 10 legbar hens and 8 roosters (not counting the two in the incubator), so that should make a nice little flock. Not sure yet what I will do with all those roosters yet!

I'll get pictures of the new little babies up probably Friday. I have to go to Duchesne right after I get off work in the morning because they are going to build my boys coop (for the Breda and Joel's Welsummers that are yet to come). Not looking forward to the 2 hour drive after working 12 hours in ICU tonight!

By the way, I have one very confused little BLRW chick hatching--it is zipping the egg *lengthwise* instead of going around the top like normal. It's about 3/4 of the way down the egg and still working on it. Never seen that one before. Persistent little tyke...

Okay, I'm kind of a posting maniac trying to kill time before work! I finally took pictures of Fort Chicken the last time I was up in Duchesne, so here they are:

Excuse the messy wood pile in front--that's firewood we just haven't found a neat place for yet. The black plastic at the top is winter dressing to keep some of the cold out and collect sunlight. Kind of a passive solar thing, though it didn't work as well as we wanted.

This is the side the BLRW's are kept on (can kind of see some of them in the picture). It is actually a divided pen--the BLRW's are in the closest side and those idiotic Freedom Rangers that I stupidly thought would be a good idea are in the other side. Can't stand those stupid birds. All they ever do is eat, drink, and poop. They aren't particularly friendly and they had better make a good dinner or I am going to be seriously ticked. Never seen birds eat that much. Sheesh.

The coop they are putting up tomorrow won't be quite this large--it is only 8x10 and we will still have to build the runs off it when they are done. This coop was a heaping lot of work, done by me and two friends. I decided I didn't want to do that again, so Wright Sheds is coming up to put up the new coop.

I love your coop, Corvidae! That is AMAZING. What in the world is going on with those Isbars? Have you contacted Green Fire with your issues? I'd be really, really traumatized by that!! I don't blame you by being upset.

I would love to take you up on your offer for the BLRW eggs. I'm still bummed that it looks like I only got 1/5 girls. You are in Bountiful, correct? What is your schedule like tomorrow? I am pretty open earlier in the day, but I have a buyer closing on a house at 4, and I have a tentively scheduled listing appointment for 5:30. What would work for you?

I am going nuts wondering what's going on with my eggs at the preschool.

I am going up to Duchesne as soon as I get off work here at 7 AM and won't be back probably until about 6 PM. I'm on call for ICU tomorrow night, so I don't know if I will be home or not, but I just work up here at Lakeview, so I could bring them into work or even leave them on my porch at home if you like.

I'd be going nuts, too, if I had eggs hatching and couldn't check in on them!

Isn't that funny how they are so black, then turn totally blue! I think I have one gray that really makes me think boy...#5. The rest really look like girls so far, which would surprise me out of 5......but if you had lots of hens too then maybe its not impossible! Lucky I would be to get 4/5 girls :) How much did you sell them for? I have three left I need to put on KSL, I have no idea what to go for :)

DONNA HOLY SMOKES!!! Now THAT is a chicken fortress. I love it! I want that! I want that! haha ;0
No wonder you have so many chickens. You can fit a whole army in there! Oh and I candled the BLRW I got from you, they all look great so far! Wow! They must be happy little chickens in that big ole fort !

No, Lady GaGa, no! You knew I would say something didn't you? lol...you little stinker. How are the chicks for sell doing..going? On ksl.

How is Syndie doing? Still think she wants to go broody?
