The green ones are ee's-- the slate ones (kind of dark gray like the Aussies) are usually Am, if that helps. I am probably not helping with the confusion haha! I had an Am chick from a breeder but the legs turned out green, because the roo next door got in the pen and messed up the chicks lol

Okay! So I got to meet Sasha and her daughter

It was fun to say hi to you two! Thank you again for helping with the Chicken Shuttle, haha. And thank you, too, Lisa!

So I loooove these babies! (Well, I love all my babies) Oh my word, these Icelandics are so darling and tiny. I've already named the suspected girl Gerti, and the suspected boy Sven. I'm just so excited to have them. Thanks, Birdguy!

I noticed when I picked up the babies that Sven had a pasty bum. When I got him home, I was worried about him. He seemed very lethargic and wasn't standing up or using his one leg much. I thought, "Oh no, is this what spraddle leg looks like?" Well, first things first, I dipped his little beak into the water dish a couple of times and made sure he got a drink, then got a warm n' wet rag to clean his vent. It was plugged good.

Sven mostly slept in my hand while I worked on him, and after a few minutes, he kind of woke up and gave this little "Chip chip!" Out came a load of poo, and I cleaned it off right away. It was white and smelled strange, so I imagine it had been stuck for a bit. I kept cleaning him off, and he gave me another really good round of poo, at which point I had to get a new rag. I got his bum cleaned all the way off, daubed on some balm, and then made sure he got a drink of the new vitamin water I'd refilled their bottle with.

He's now walking around in the brooder and chirping more, picking at things, and even eating some food. He still seems kind of wobbly, so I'll be keeping a close eye on him for the next couple of days, but I can already tell that he's feeling a lot better. Phew! Glad I caught that when I did. Sometimes these things just happen, and I'm glad I could help my baby.

Red, glad you got Sven all squared away. I'd watch his butt for the next couple days, just to be safe.


I think for the good of the world, I'm staying home the rest of the night. I'm thinking I've jinxed people today. I've come upon two different car accidents today. Didn't witness either, just arrived on scene seconds later. The first one involved 4 kids in one car, two kids in the other car. Two kids had to be transported by ambulance, but nobody appeared to be seriously hurt. The second car accident happened right by my house, and the car flipped. Baby was fine, mom was freaked and sore, but not bad, and dad had a bunch of glass in his arm, but otherwise unhurt. I love carseats, seatbelts, and airbags.

But, I am done seeing trauma today.

Got up to Duchesne briefly today to check on the broody hen. She hatched out 11 of 14 eggs, but four of the chicks had died. I think she did not get them to the waterer. They looked a bit older than the other seven, so maybe she wouldn't get off the nest to show them the water.

Anyway, the other 7 looked pretty good and she was super protective of them. We made sure they could reach the waterer and tapped their little beaks on the water nipples to give them the idea. They seemed less than interested, but hopefully it will do the trick.

You will all be very proud of me--I picked up 2 dozen eggs while I was up there, and I am not putting a single one in the Franken-Bator!

Cynthia, why are you selling your exchequers?

I am keeping one..I don't have all three showing..plus, I have many more in the incubator! Sold my last two Ameraucanas today. That makes me smile.

I would say sorry to "that guy" but..............

I have a lot of Exchequers coming up if anyone is wanting any. They are prolific layers. And, a nice change from the white or brown.

I am getting those eggs I won..EE's and Marans. I will have some Welsummers. I will have some Icelandics. Now, if that new bator would just get here! I will place them in there when I get it..after I get the hang of it. I just got more good news on it on another thread. There is a guy there that has three of the older models..the 5000, and he wants three more! He says no more sticky chicks, and no more dead chicks in the shell. He says he opens and shuts the bator DURING lock down often times when placing more eggs in. I've heard that from someone else on that too. Hmmm, almost sounds too good to be true, but we shall see! I'm excited.

Oh Man Shinx, glad you weren't involved in any. Flipped car? That's scary! I hear ya on the seatbelts, and all else. They really do save lives!

So proud of you Donna, you go girl! Sphinx, you better stay put you have some bad karma going on for traveling! Red, glad you like your babies, they are so tiny. You think I got the guess right on gender? The boyish one looked just like the other to choose from....pretty sure both boys, so I picked the narrowest comb area of the two. Hope for sure one is a female! It would be cute if both were. Glad the pasty bum is better!

Wow, Donna. I am so proud of you!!! I look at my gorgeous babies from you though, and think about how I saved them from being breakfast (for now dun dun DUUUUUUUNNNN!!!!). Your birds make such gorgeous babies, it almost seems like a crime to eat the eggs.
