Utah!

A couple of questions, where do you get your feed in Utah? I've been using IFA brand and I'm wondering if there are better quality and/or organic options locally?
Another question, do you clip wings? If so do you do 1 or both? Our Welsummer keeps getting out of the run, which isn't a huge deal now but will be later when the garden is really going.
I buy Nature's Best Organic at the IFA in Salt Lake.. It's the only place I've found organic so far and it's majorly pricey (about $32 per 50 lb bag!), but since my middle son seems to be sensitive to half the dang foods out there, it's worth it for me to make sure the chickens who make the eggs aren't eating some of the stuff he's sensitive to. That, and I strongly object to GMO foods. Feeding the chicks and laying birds this way is actually cheaper then buying organic eggs at Whole Foods. There are a couple of cleaner organic feeds one can order on line, but they are actually even more expensive.

Don't know what the world is coming to when it cost far more to feed your family healthy than it does to feed them garbage. Seriously backwards thinking, particularly since you pay for it in medical costs and debility down the road.

And yes, the whole thing is a serious pet peeve of mine. I shall cease my babbling before I devolve into a flat-out rant!

Like I was telling you, I clip both to keep them from flying up and over the fence. Just the front row of each wing, not all the way back. This way, they look the same on each side. Some of mine that are real flighty...some EE's I've had..I had to do all the way back on both wings..again, I like doing both wings so they look the same. Not one wing shorter looking than the other. It's fast and very easy to do.

I got the shipped eggs I won today in the mail--ended up (for various reasons) being a mix of Lavendar and Black Orpingtons, Gold-Laced Brahma, and Blue Laced Brahma eggs. I have them sitting out to rest right now, but, honestly, I don't know what I would do with these birds. Aside from being pretty large breeds, I simply don't have the coop space for them! I don't suppose anyone wants them? I guess I could hatch them and sell whatever comes out on KSL...

Oooh, those sound like a pretty mix! The Golden laced Brahma will be pretty, very large, but pretty. Blue laced brahma? Not sure I have seen those. Sounds pretty though.

Call Kirk. He said he saw your ad and had tried to call you with no luck I told him these BLRW were the same as your BLRW you were the one to call! I did not give your # out directly, he said he did not have it---I told him to look back on ksl to be sure I was not getting in trouble here :) I bet he would want some of the orps. :) He was wanting me to hatch more of those blue orps. You just might have to wait a month or so for him to show lol watch out!

Cynthia glad he called. I told him about those eggs and how huge they were I hope it is ok he is back on your list lol Sounded like he really wanted some.

Yes, he asked me if I knew Donna's number. I said I didn't. I didn't know she had some on ksl. I bet he wouldn't care if I gave out his number in a pm..and can call him back and see..but first want to make sure Donna wants to hear from him...Donna?

Kirk got ahold of me--picked up 11 of my BLRW's this afternoon. I talked to him briefly about the hatching eggs and he didn't seem overly interested. I guess I will just stick them in the 'bator and see what develops. If more than a couple hatch, I'll put them up on KSL, I suppose. It is seriously beyond me to just toss them!

Donna---too funny! Glad he got ahold of you, he said he was seriously headed to you when he left here. That crazy guy has chickens coming out his ears :) Pretty sure I gave him two girls, now he will definitely have plenty of girls with that many! And he says he wants more?! Too funny. Chicken math gone mad. I love it :D

Cynthia LOVE your pics of flowers! Pretty ones! Scott gets an A+. You got a new camera AND a new bator? You are spoiled ;) You deserve it! 12 kids?? You deserve it!!
