Hello, new member here! Seattle transplant now living in Heber. Just bought our chicks last week. I'm already enjoying them so much and am so happy to see so many other members in Utah!

I like the one in the last photo that looks like it put get in and styled it's hair...What is a Showgirl?
The one with the funny hairdo...has a very large vault...we like that! When it fluffs out, it will be fluffy, well, it is today. Plus, those usually have the body type that is round and cute.
A showgirl is just a silkie without any feathering on the neck, kind of like the naked necks, only I like these better, at least they have fluff around them. I don't think this one will have a real long neck without feathers, because it has the bow tie too.
Hi Hector! Haven't seen you in a while. What have you got going on over there?

Well thanks...Now I am going to have to look up what you mean by vault. ( I am really new at this) and also the bow tie...I actually don't know anything about silkies other than they are all fluff. LOL

The preteens. Jemma is curious about the camera.

Thelma enjoying the sunshine.

Stevie's making sure I pass inspections. He's so vigilant. When some of the older girls started picking on the preteens, he separated them and chased my gray EE away from the group. Atta boy.

Little bit of a gear shift here - My Marans and her chickies.

This is the one I'm pretty sure is a girl. Anyone else want to chime in on whether they think this looks more like a Marans baby or a Barred Rock?

The turkey butts! They grow very fast.

Yours truly. Man today was a long day!

I need a name for this getup. It has yet to be painted and have a couple of doors put on either end, but for now, it is functional and the big girls are finally in their new pen. Yay!

Thanks for letting me share!

Red! Love your new setup! You are awesome to make that whole thing I am impressed. And so sorry to hear about your BSL that racoon has got to go. And the lacing on Stevie is nice, so fun to see the pics, I can see Angel there too, they are getting so big! I am going to say your one is a Barred Rock and I am going to guess boy here. Don't be mad now, it is just a guess lol! I have two marans babies and they are pretty solid black, no colors through the wings at all and no spot like the BR. And something about the nose just makes me think boy----and it is a bit lighter ...boys are lighter. hmmm....just my guess. You will have to keep us posted what he/she turns out to be .

Welcome ChickiesinUtah! Hope you like it here, now you have to post pics of your babies. It is part of the deal :p

My heart is breaking and I'm beginning to wonder if I can hack it being a chicken mom. I just discovered my little barred rock Wyandotte bantam, dead in her brooder. There wasn't any signs of distress at all, I never saw it coming. The little crele roo was nuzzling her trying to wake her and then just cuddled up next to her. Now he's all alone and is going to cry, probably for days. WTH? I don't get it. She wasn't flourishing like Clay (the crele roo) was, and he was almost twice her size now. But I've seen her eat and drink. Does this happen often? Is it like SIDS in human babies? Why is it that I was able to successfully raise freaking IFA chicks and not have any deaths and I've had so many problems with these poor little crele wyandotte bantams?
