Utah!

Good luck with your contest, Cynthia. Very nice pictures.

Kimmy, is the lady selling the BLRW hen Rebecca? If so, she's the one I bought my hatching eggs from (set one, I should say), and she's on the up and up. My biggest concern on buying adult hens is if they're truly the age they're purported to be. I'd trust Rebecca. Of course, I'd also trust anyone else who posts in this group too. I've introduced grown hens to the flock, and it's generally gone fairly well. I would do it.
Yes, Rebecca has some BLRW listed on KSL because she is narrowing down her breeding flock. She said they were born in 4/11 so not too old. Would it be my little pullets that would pick on the big girl or the other way around?

Eek Page 666.

Hey I hear a peep! My eggs are not due til Friday. Donna didn't you say yours hatch a day early? These are from you.....I can totally hear cheeping in there from one. Good sign!

You never ever know how it is going to play out :p But they calm down eventually. Everybody gets their bloomers in a knot the first day or two. "Hey! That is my food! You can't eat that!!!"
Just provide a little hiding spot for the victim (s).....a box with a door cut out, a couple of boards standing up against the wall.....chickens are like pacman---when they go through the backdoor everybody quits chasing them. The minute mine go behind a board the naughty chasers stop and go "woa! what happened!" after a few days they start to hang out and in a few weeks no one remembers the bad introduction.

She seemed like an honest person and i would trust her with the age. If her hens have the same color as my little roo i would buy one (but i was told i cant get any more, like 22 is to many--REALLY). She has a really nice looking line. But i have heard you should really introduce 2 so they have a friend. Don't forget about quarantine.Very Very Very important.

Well I think I will keep our seven and wait a while to add more baby chicks, I don't have a place to quarantine and it all seems like so much hassle. :) it's just that BLRW are soooo beautiful!

on quarantine. Unless you know the person and their flock. Can stand there and watch the flock to see if there isn't anything going on. If it is the Rebecca I think you are talking about, she just brought eggs out to me, but I never saw any chickens. She's probably being as careful as I am about people coming around her chickens. themad..did you see any chickens when you bought that rooster? Just wondering.
Also kim, if you want a broody hen, the wyondottes are the way to go for LF. They go broody and there you have it, an incubator outside instead of inside. :)

Yes they are. I watched her add for 2 months before i final bought one. Just had to get one. But i got side tracked and bought a FBCM and the 1 BLRW from her on my way home. I was going to buy 2 from her but the other breeder was only about a mile away from her house and i only planed on getting 2 chicks. And now instead of having a BLRW hen i have 2 little roosters. I will try again next spring. I have been trying to convince my little rooster he is a hen but don't think he is listening. I will keep him as long as possible just cause he is so amazing to look at. Nothing compares to the colors. (i really wish one of my hens would go broody cause she is also selling eggs!) SIGH!

i did not see her chickens, but it was late when i showed up and was in the middle of a blizzard (no joke) and 18 degrees.(i remember cause i was thinking what the heck am i doing as i put her in the box next to the copper and stuck them down on the floor next the heater vent in the truck) The chicken bug is a very dangerous thing, there should be a warning label!

Picture time! :) The first two are of "Clay", my lone survivor of 32 eggs. The pics are a few days old, so he's obviously more developed now but so cute with all the fuzz!

And now, the teenagers.

(Haha)

The only teen I didn't get a picture of was "Elvis", the gold laced polish I got from Blujems/Slvrphoenix...she's definitely camera shy!

And since I'm here, posting pictures, why not a picture of my dream barn? It's about 10 miles down the road from me. *sigh*

Sasha..you have a very nice looking little flock going on! Pretty birds, and that Clay is darling. One baby, out of all those eggs? Doesn't that just make you a little upset? It does me. I really believe it's these bators. I am getting my ReptiPro today..woke up thinking about it, can't sleep, so, here I am. :)
I have some reading up to do on it..there is a thread on here just for that bator. Been learnin lots.

I want a barn like that too!
