Utah!

Your chick is adorable! She has such big eyes. Cal Ranch is open on Sundays, you might try them for a bag of chick feed. I know they sell chicks there so I would think they would sell the supplys as well.

The quote isn't showing up even tho I hit "quote" so we'll see if it posts twice. Anyhows.... thank you for telling me about Cal Ranch. Never been there and it was FUN! They had several banties left but they were all a couple wks old and very flightly, looked like game birds of some kind. So I picked the smallest Gold Sexlink which they just got in. Poor girl had very bad pasty butt. Her and Dora are now buddies and I'm glad I went. Dora is much more active and imitated the eating & drinking. She may not have needed to earlier since she had just hatched but she did not have any yolk belly and the not drinking (except when I helped) had me concerned.

Dora's still such a peanut when you consider how small Sunny is. Now the two are happy, thank you for the suggestion!

Cynthia - sorry... I would hv loved a silkie but couldn't convince the DH to drive that far and Cal Ranch has gun stuff.

Sasha:  Are you  making an account just so you can stalk me?

Me:  Yup!!!!

Thanks Lisa,  now everyone knows my name, so much for stalking anonymously.  :)

And how come I can't put a signature line on my posts?  Is it because I am too new?

Try posting "RAWR" eight times and see if it lets ya do it! They make you wait ten posts to make sure you are not a creepy stalker dude. Oh wait....

Pics of a couple from the BLRW I hatched from Donna. Thanks Donna! These all had great coloring, no splash---I got 11/15 in lockdown....I think there are 4 black and 7 blue. Very cute and fat :) It is really hard to tell these apart. Also, every single one had the rose comb this time.

Next weekend the Wheatens will hatch that I got from Chickenstock. Hopefully they will work, the eggs are pretty. So far I have 14 left from the original 16 that look good.

I LIIIIIIIVE!! Gah! Took me a while to read through all the posts here and catch up on how everyone is. Last week, after I got done building that run, I was feeling tired and kind of sick. I figured it was just plain old exhaustion with a little bit of heat sickness mixed in. Turns out it was the onset of a super nasty flu virus that put me down for the rest of the week. So not fun, now I must unlearn that chickens = feeling sick, yuck. It's not the girls' fault that their mommy got sick.

To all the new members that showed up in the last week - Welcome!

Love all of the baby pictures! Doughie, that little goat looked like a cat to me at first, too, haha. Looks like you were having fun! Lisa, congrats on the new grandbaby! She is beautiful. And your daughter has your smile and your eyes. Cynthia, I so love the picture of your little silkie sleeping in the flowers. It's just so perfect and it keeps making me smile.

Sasha, am I dreaming, or did you say you live in Hyrum? If so, is that mansion barn that's down the road from you, in the direction of Paradise? If so, I might actually know who owns it.

Rex, hate to say it, but even if Lisa hadn't blown your cover, I'd have guessed your identity, too. Usually the only members on here that are discouraging of getting more chickens/goats/animals are the spouses

Oh, Lisa, guess what?! Stevie's tail feathers are curling down! YEAH!!! And I'm pretty sure I see the start of some wattle action going on, too. I'll try to get a picture soon.

Sphinx, I'm sorry to hear that you had such an unsettling experience with selling the cockerel

Don't worry about the boys I got from you. Even if they are inteded as dinner, they're still getting the best life I can give them. Plenty of food and water, fresh air and sunshine, free range time and lots of space. I don't like it when animals get mistreated, even if they're "just food". Any cockerel I get that ends up going to freezer camp will be treated humanely and given the care they need. After all, a happy chicken is better for eating than a scrawny, undernourished, stressed chicken, right?

In other news, my Icelandics are doing well. Sven is finally starting to grow. I wonder if him being plugged up delayed his growth at all? Either way, he's pretty zippy and happy now. Good times.

Hey Red! Good to see you back, I was wondering where you were! Glad you feel better.

So do your little icelandics still look like the same gender we guessed? And the Blues sound like they are working out to be boy and girl. We are getting good at guessing I think! Stevie was an "if"--- was not sure on that one. Acted like a boy. Looked like a maybe girl.
I am trying to pick out some boys and girls for a few people buying these BLRW. The only difference at all on these is comb width. Feathering is still too new to look at those wings, and don't know if that works on these. It is kind of fun to see if the guess is right or wrong.

Quote: That's hilarious! My husband makes a bee-line for that counter and stares at all of the pretty firearms under the glass. Who says men don't window shop?

I am so happy that you found a friend for Dora. What a sweet picture of the two of them cuddled up together. Makes my day a little brighter to see something like that.

Lisa, yep! It still looks like I have one boy, one girl. I've been watching how their feathers grow, and the girlish chick has more wing feathers than the boy. Their tails are also starting to look like Angel's and Stevie's did at that age, so I'm pretty sure I've got a fine little pair there.

Angel is definitely a girl, but that's no surprise, right? Her tail is so long and she's got a cute little hen shape going on already. I noticed it when I had them out the other day. I'm thinking Stevie is going to be a big, handsome boy. His head coloration is coming in a little darker. It's the same shade of blue as the dark edging on his body feathers. He's already as big as my BO, who's 2 1/2 months old or so. I can't wait to see what he looks like when he's all grown up! Good luck with picking out some babies for your buyers. It can be hard to guess on those little ones, for sure.

Oh yes! Cynthia, I was one of the ones that figured your black Amer was a girl. I'm glad to see the guess was good! She's lovely.

Sorry to multi-post, all. I just remembered something interesting in the predator news. The boyfriend recently talked to some neighbors that are a little ways down the street behind his house. They also keep chickens, and the lady there told him that the same raccoon (we think) that has been killing our birds is responsible for wiping out their entire flock. They've tried traps, too, with no success. And I know that there's another neighbor back there that keeps traps out all the time because of the raccoon traffic he gets in the back yard. Man, I really want to get my hands on this coon. I just need to figure out how to do it. I'm wondering about a jaw trap, though I worry it would harm other animals. There's always camouflaging a Hav-a-hart trap inside of something like a garbage can, too. Birdman, I know you suggested wolf urine, but I don't want to scare this thing off - I want to catch it and dispatch it. Any other ideas?
