Utah!

Sarah, it wouldn't hurt to call IFA and ask when their last shipment comes in. I think the feed stores are starting to trail off. When it's all said and done, my easter eggers have been my favorite breed so far.

I've accomplished lots today. Got the tile grouted in on the firepit I'm making, and did the spring cleaning on the big chicken coop. Also cleaned out the brooder box. Put the babies with the mediums. So far, they seem to be doing ok. I think I'll bring the babies back inside for the night, but I'm pleased to have a chicken free house for the moment.

Ah, see? I knew my cute little chickies would bring you over to the dark side eventually! Oh, wait...must be the light side? ;)
My username is "ducklover700" not "chickenlover700". Besides, I have no problem with them as babies. I'm just not into the adults.

Ok, so I saw my lavenders "true colors" today! My goodness, I have not seen anything that mean in a chicken before but once..and that was from a black sex link. I put my blue and my Exchequer in the coop today. All the other girls would just shove at the new ones, but that lavender pecked at the blue at first. I thought, we'll see, she probably will settle down, not! She chased the poor blue down next time, got on top of her, and kept pecking and pulling feathers. while the poor little blue girl was screaming. I had to break it up! That blue girl is almost the size of the lavender too. I have her separated, but after seeing what I saw today, I don't think keeping her aside for a while is going to do the trick..if she is going to pick on a new chick like that, I don't want that.
You will probably see her on ksl real soon. Unless someone here thinks she will do fine in their flock..hey Elk! You have chickens running free range..plus, sometimes, the change does them good..an older chicken in the flock already being the Here's the lavender you wanted!

oh wow, Cynthia! I'm sorry she's being so mean. Is she the same age as MY lavender? I'd be happy to take her. If she didn't do well in my flock, I could give her to my next door neighbor, who is looking to get 6 or so new hens. Everything she has is at least a year old. I'll be coming through Spanish Fork on Sunday (coming home from family reunion).

I got the most wonderful phone call today. Remember how I was trying to help that other class' chick who had the splayed leg? I'd taped him for 5 days or so, and nothing. So, I finally taped him one more time, told the teacher that I was really sorry, but I didn't think it would going to be ok. That night, she gave them to another teacher who'd already agreed to take the batch. That teacher kept the tape on until it fell off (another 3 days or so), and now she reports that he's more or less perfect. Every once in a while, his leg slides a little, but he's virtually indistinguishable from the other chicks now!!!!!

Shinx, come get her. :) Hope she does well with yours. This is one of the three lavenders, that you, Lisa, and I have. She's small like yours too. That's what surprised me. This blue I have is almost her size, and a month younger. Let me know what time you are thinking on Sunday.

Lisa, I don't need to go on any more about how much I loved my Delaware. They are very good-natured birds, from all that I saw. And solely for the sake that I would end up buying a chick from you, please, I beg you, DO NOT get Delaware eggs!

Cynthia, ack! Can't believe your lavender went postal like that. I've caught a couple of my chicks being bullies when they were little, but usually "pecking" them with my finger got them to quit it. It also worked very nicely that I have two bouncers who break up fights, those being my Welsummer and my Blue Wyandotte cockerel. I hope none of the chicks get aggressive as adults. It will not be a happy day.

Brad, I'm sorry your house got flooded

A few years ago, we had a waterline break in our basement and start to flood before we got it shut off and repaired. Our insurance was really good about getting it cleaned up and replacing the carpet. Hopefully, it goes just as smoothly for you guys. I didn't think of putting a light out by the coop, but I like the idea. I like the KSL ad thing, too. I would like to save some money and get a game cam to put out there and see what's going on. This raccoon comes around about once a month or so.

i had a ee do that to the girls i got from you cynthia, she went for those neck feathers every chance she got, well me having the rooster role in my flock i put her in her place every time she even looked like she was going to peck at them, i even locked her up while the others got treats and i made sure she knew it too. now she does not even dare peck the new girls and it worked great. you just got to learn how to be the rooster cynthia :p remember in a flock its the rooster that breaks up the fights and puts girls in their place
