Sorry I haven't been around much lately--been working like crazy and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight for a while on that.

My poor kids are starting to think they've been abandoned.

Bad things happening on the chicken front, too. Remember those Isbars that brought the chicken plague down on us? Well, that all seemed to have passed some time ago and I moved them out to the larger coops outside--they were way too big for the indoor brooder. Unfortunately, I stupidly put them in with the Breda and some BLRW's I had out there. Yep, you guessed it--they are all dying. 11 Breda have died so far and I think 5 of the BLRW's. A bunch more look sickly. I should have offed those stupid Isbars. Now the whole lot of them are contaminated with *something*, though we still don't know what. They get lethargic, droppy-winged, puffed out, then either die or get better. I'm very thankful now that I didn't put them in with the legbars, but my son is very sad and upset that his Breda are all dying. I'm at a loss as to what to do at this point. I want to take some of the bodies up to Logan to have them examined, but I just don't have the time to drive up there.

I've turned off the incubator for a while (finally!). Can't hatch anymore little ones until we get this all under control, of course. My friend's have taken the legbars up to Duchesne for me (I haven't had time to get up there for a couple of weeks), so they should be safe. If I just knew what it was, I could figure out what to do.

Donna, I'm soooo sorry to hear about your flock. What a devastating thing to be dealing with.

I wondering if diffusing essential oils known to kill bacteria and viruses when antibiotics can't would stop whatever this disease is. Do you know of anyone close to you that is an essential oil rep? I'm thinking if you stick a diffuser in the coop and diffuse an oil blend called OnGuard, it may save your chickens you have left. Many hospitals are now using this, including one hospital in Denver that was threatened to be shut down due to the MRSA bacteria running rampant there. They had tried everything and weren't able to kill it off until they started using the OnGuard essential oil blend. May be worth trying.

Oh, Donna, I am so, so sorry!!!! I think you should see if Sasha would be willing to take a couple chicks to Logan for you- she'll be at the SLC airport, so it would work out. I'm heartbroken for you, how terrible. I am an essential oils rep, so I could get some On Guard for you, or if you do meet Sasha Monday, she could sell you a bottle. It's worth a shot.

Cynthia, very exciting for your son, though a bit bittersweet for you.

On the poop, I remember seeing a link once that had different kinds of bird poop and what was normal, what was not, and the various causes. I can't look it up right now, but I'll try to find it Sunday.

Oh, I talked to Suzie, who gave me the latest hatching eggs. Emily, the one who came from the dark olive egg is a mutt with the following lines: Wheaten Ameraucana (I think that's the strongest influence), black copper marans, and lavender ameraucana. I am crossing my fingers she's a girl, as well as the coronation sussex. If either of them turn out to be roos, I will honestly cry. I posted pictures of all three on my chicken blog if you want to see.

Tomorrow morning I'm showing a couple houses, then I'm running the Dirty Dash, and then we're having a few friends over to christen the new firepit. What I'm still doing awake at midnight is beyond me. Good night!

So sorry about the chickens that are dying... I think the essential oil diffuser is a good idea, worth a try, anyway!!

Eventually I would love a BLRW, but I think I would prefer the LF rather than bantam....

Will try and get pics of the chickies wings tomorrow...

15 more dead chickens this morning. Not very many left.

We are freezing 4 of them to go up to Logan as soon as I figure out how I can get them up there. I think I can actually overnight them to the lab. I'll call them Monday and find out. I never did hear from that guy who sold me the Isbars. I'd pretty much like to kill him at this point.

Sphinx - awesome on the dirty dash. I wanted to do that but it didnt work out. I just did the Color run in Denver.

Went to are IFA last night they had a mix of bantam chicks. But they didnt realy know what kinds they were. This morning when my daughter and i went to let the chickens out of there coop there was a bird flying around in the bottom of the A-frame. I have no idea how it got there.

Im wondering what is going to be the best thing to feed my chickens. They are not free range. The just have the open bottom of the A-frame. We have an IFA and a CAL-ranch. So far we just picked up the Layer feed 16% pellets. And some oyster shells to mix in. Will this work? Or should i do something else?

Have you treated them for Coccidia? That can be nasty and lethal. Its a protoza. The medicated chick food helps. You can also collect a fecal sample and ask a vet to do a microscopic exam on it. They may pick up the issue. Could also be Giardia. You can buy Tylen at the feed store. Put it in the water, Kills lots of internal bacteria

Wow! So sorry for your loss! This is just crazy. Sad thing is, as you probably know very well by now, it could be so many different things. You are wise to have this checked out. If your chickens were well, then you put the so called "well" looking Isbars out there, that says something doesn't it? They are carriers, even if they got over it. So your others that get well will be carriers..a possibility. When you get the news as to what that stuff is, you will know what to do with the ones that live. I can't imagine losing my flock. I'm so sorry. And me? If it were me? I would sooo be letting that person that sold you those birds..that you have lost most of your flock now because of his birds. Let him know how it came about. Thought they were well, put them out, next thing you know, you have birds dieing, except the Isbars that got over it! Ooo, can you tell, sick birds stress me, just ask Wendy. LOL

So sorry for all the losses corvidae. How horrible, I hope you get some answers soon.

I ended up with 3 babies...2 bantam wyandottes and 1 bantam Cochin. I will get some pics soon.

3 out of 12 eggs is terrible...I won't be setting any eggs from my friend anymore.
I am pretty sure it is a feed issue. Lack of nutrition or something along those lines.
